My Story

*** Banjo is in a foster home. *** Buff tabby, short hair, neutered male, born approx. 1/1/19, #18988 Cats: great, he's a greeter! Dogs: likely good Children: cat-savvy adults / tweens+ BACKGROUND: Banjo and his two companions lost their home when their "guardians" moved away and left them behind locked outside. Neighbors started feeding them but it was almost a year later when one of the cats was attacked that they started calling around to rescues and moved into our care. PERSONALITY: Banjo has a few scars of his own from those hard times, but he is so happy to be living with humans again! He is a cat tree king who will find the highest perch of every cat tree and rotate around for his naps and observation periods. He'll be down lickety-split when he sees a Churu-style lickable treat, though! And he's thrilled when he's got a water fountain. This love machine prefers to direct your interactions and make the choice to come to you rather than be pursued, but he'll have his motor running as he rubs his face on your hand and twines between your legs... sometimes when you sit down Banjo will climb into your lap with even louder purrs; he'll melt into chin rubs. Since he can get overstimulated, it's best to keep the petting sessions on the slow and gentle side. If his ears start to go back, that's the sign that it's getting a bit much and it's time to ease back the playtime or petting even though he's not giving any other sign. It's also best not to mix petting and playtime since he gets very hunt-focused on his games. Banjo LOVES interactive fishing wands... and pipe cleaners... and automatic toys. He can chill out with the best of them, but he's a playful guy who likes to be entertained. He'll come back to you when he's ready for more love. Banjo wants you around for quality companionship. COMPATIBILITY: Banjo is wonderful with other cats of all ages and has been the greeter aka "Uncle Banjo" to new-arriving fosters (even the annoying kittens); he's just so unbothered, and gets up out of the way to watch when needed. He has been good with a senior dog though we don't know about puppy energy (though if kittens are any indication, he'd be fine). As he can use his teeth to communicate if he gets overstimulated, he will do best with a person who can comfortably read cat body language cues; we recommend a home with cat-savvy adults or tweens+. Banjo is one of the sweetest cats: he loves love! Will you give him a stable home where he knows you'll always be there for him? You'll be richly rewarded by this loverboy. While healthy, Banjo has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). This is a type of virus that typically causes some weakening of a cat's immune system. It is a cat-only virus and cannot be spread through casual friendly contact between cats. FIV+ cats can and do live quite normal lives in quality, duration, and happiness. A good informative website is FIVCats.com.
