We named this fantastic survivor, Iggy Pop. He saw the amazing vets at Trailside Animal Hospital on Monday. The most horrific part of Iggy Pop's story is that his leg was shattered beyond repair because he had been SHOT! His x-ray showed his leg was shattered. Bullet fragments remained in his leg. The vet estimated that he had been severely injured for about 2 weeks. We cannot imagine the amount of pain he was in and yet all through his vet stay he has done nothing but purr and express his gratitude for being rescued. Iggy had his broken leg amputated in order to facilitate his recovery. Being 3 legged does not keep him from being a very happy boy.
Part 2 of his story is that he tested positive for feline leukemia (FELV). This means that he needs an experienced owner. The incidence of Feline Leukemia is only 4% worldwide. It is considered the friendly cat virus because it is spread by mutual grooming and sharing of food bowls. Adult cats infected with the virus may live for several years before becoming symptomatic. The key to longevity is close observation and regular checkups with a veterinarian.
He would be best in a home without any other cats but some owners choose to vaccinate their other pets for FELV and allow positive and negative cats to live together. Whatever the choice, Iggy Pop is very appreciative that he is now an indoor cat and he shows his appreciation to his foster mama every single day. You should meet Iggy Pop. He really is the bestest boy!
Prior to adoption, each Barnie's Place cat or kitten is spayed or neutered, receives age appropriate vaccinations, receives a microchip and is tested for FELV.
