My Story

Ivan the Handsome started life as a stray, then decided to give up his outdoor life and find nice people to live with - however, the other pets in the family were not a fan of Ivan. Ivan spent time in a foster home with one of our rescue partners, who had this to say about him: "He is a friendly boy who settled in to foster care after spending a few days hiding. He is comfortable in a new place when he can find a space to observe the activity in the room before joining in. He gets along with his foster siblings." Something unique about Ivan is that he has FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). Many cats with FIV live long and happy lives! This virus affects the immune system, so Ivan's adopters need to be diligent about medical issues and veterinary care. It is not contagious to people or non-cat animals. It is recommended that Ivan be the only cat in the home or live with other FIV+ cats. If you'd like to meet our available pets, please check the "shelter information" box on the listing to see if the pet is located at our Fairfax Campus (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) or our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton). Then, come in during our open hours! Both of our locations are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information on our adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/adopt
