My Story

*** If you have any questions or would like to meet any of our adoptable cats, email [email protected]. Please include a cell number and check your SPAM folder if you do not receive a timely response. We are looking for a special home for this big 7-year-old, front-paw declawed boy, Lucky Man. He has quite a long backstory that we would like to share with you. Lucky Man was originally rescued from Kentucky and an abuse situation. He is a front-paw declawed, 20-pound big fellow. Sadly, he has been adopted and returned twice to NAWS for biting. Unfortunately, he occasionally communicates with his mouth now that he no longer has his claws, a behavior that sometimes happens in declawed cats. Despite this undesirable behavior, he is a very loving cat that just wants attention and affection. He has the potential to be an amazing cat for someone experienced and willing to work with him. Lucky Man has been adopted and returned twice. His first adopters were heartbroken to return him to NAWS - they adored him. However, he lived with an older couple and due to their medical issues, they could no longer risk his biting. They commented that Lucky Man was never attempting to be mean or aggressive, rather when he wanted more attention he would bite out of frustration. He is the type of cat that requires a lot of interactive play and stimulation. In his favor, he is a playful, strong, and very social cat that learns quickly to fit into any environment. He would likely be a perfect cat for clicker training. When Lucky Man was adopted again, we thought that we had finally found the perfect home for him. But unfortunately, after five months in a home, he was relinquished back to us again when his adopter moved and could not take him with. Now that he is back at NAWS, we can tell he is sad - he does not want to be homeless again and likely doesn't understand what he did wrong. He truly loves to be around people but can't always control himself when frustrated or overstimulated. Do you have a home that could be the right fit where he can finally settle down forever? He needs a home without small children, dogs or other cats (he tends to pounce on them and play rough and he is quite large). An adopter experienced with cat behaviors would be best. Lucky Man is one of those cats that we worry will spend a long time in our shelter - he is misunderstood and has a history. But we see his potential - although he tends to get himself in trouble at times, he just wants to be loved! Want to help care for him while he waits to find his forever home? You can be a "Sponsor!" Click on the "sponsor" button on this profile and your one-time donation will be used for vital everyday essentials such as his food, litter and medical care! Thank you for helping save lives! All NAWS cats are spayed/neutered, micro-chipped and up to date on vaccines. A Cat Adoption Application is required should you decide you’d like to apply to adopt a NAWS cat. Please complete and submit the application electronically on our website at http://www.nawsus.org.
