My Story

Meet Mackerel, a 6-year-old cat who's reely looking for a gentle, patient companion! Mackerel may take a little time to warm up, but once he does, he'll lean into full-body pets, roll around in joy and show you just how sweet he truly is. He's a bit of a brave explorer, showing courage when inspecting his surroundings. He does best with slow, gentle movements. Food is the way to his heart, and tasty treats are the perfect way to earn his trust. Once Mackerel knows his new home and family is his safe space, he'll stick close, content to stay in your company and soak up all the love you have to offer. This affectionate guy is looking for a calm, understanding human who will give him gentle affection! If you're ready to provide a peaceful, loving home for this sweet boy, Mackerel could be the perfect fit. This suggested adoption fee allows the ASPCA to continue our lifesaving work and help even more animals in need. We are grateful for any and all amounts given at the time of adoption.* For more information on adopting from the ASPCA, please visit www.aspca.org/adoptionsteps. **The ASPCA is committed to prioritizing the health and safety of the community, the animals in our care and our staff, and we are keeping a close eye on developments related to the COVID-19 crisis as they evolve. As such, the ASPCA Adoption Center in New York City is currently closed for in-person visitors. However, we are excited to offer remote adoptions using video conferencing! In-person meet-and-greets are also sometimes available or required for specific animals. Please check out our available cats and dogs above, and if one catches your eye, apply directly for him or her. An ASPCA Matchmaker will let you know if the animal you are interested in adopting is eligible for or requires an in-person meet-and-greet. Please note: Adoption applications are handled in the order they are received and submitting an adoption survey does not constitute a hold or guaranteed adoption. You can expect to receive automated emails updating you on your adoption status as our Matchmakers go through applications. Thank you for your patience, and we hope you find your match!**
