My Story

Melody was adopted from us in 2010 when she was about a year old. But about two months ago in October of 2024, her family moved out of state and left her behind. They said they could never do much with her, she was never able to be picked up and wasn’t friendly. Melody’s world was shattered. She had a home and a family for fourteen and a half years. She didn’t understand why she was no longer wanted. Now nearing 16 years old, she was back at the animal shelter sitting in a cage. We’ve let her decompress for quite some time as we’ve worked to build trust with her. We were initially met with nonstop growling and hissing, but she never swatted or even raised a paw. There isn’t a mean bone in her body. She was just so confused and scared. We also got her nicely groomed, as she was extremely matted upon arrival. As the weeks have gone by her hisses have become less. Her growling is minimal. Come mid-December, we heard her purr for the first time. She’s begun to lean into your hand when pet and now chooses to lay in her bed instead of her litterbox. We’ve placed Melody in our Big Cattery so she can stretch her legs and get used to more human interaction. She is still very wary of strangers and may hiss at new people, but it’s all out of fear. She was betrayed by her lifelong owners and repairing her trust with people will take time. The longer we’ve known Melody the more we’ve realized that she’s incredibly sweet. We hope that a visitor will come by and see her the same way that we do. Give her a chance. Stop in to fill out an adoption application and spend as much time as you like with our cats. We do not adopt first come; we always adopt to the best home for our animals. If you rent, bring proof (lease/contract) that you can have a cat. Also, bring your Vet's information so we can conduct a vet check (and please let your Vet know we will be making a call). Our adoption fee is $50 for cats. Our animals are fully vetted before being placed for adoption, and spayed/neutered if they are old enough. If they are too young for spay or neuter, we require a $50 deposit that will be refunded upon proof that the pet has been altered.
