My Story

Say hello to MIA! Mia is an adorable 2 years young smoke gray Persian female with bright amber eyes! She like so many is seeking her "purrever" home here in the USA! Mia is currently located overseas and will likely travel to the USA on our next flight. To expedite her adoption, we are accepting adoption applications prior to her arrival. Mia is part of our international cat rescue mission which has become critical as the conflicts in the Middle East are increasing the number of cats at risk! Mia was one of the many kittens born to a breeding queen in the back of a pet shop in Cairo, Egypt. She spent many weeks on display in a dirty, crowded cage with her mom and siblings! These conditions are so horrific, many kittens do not survive, if they're not bought right away. They usually have had no veterinary care, and likely they're unvaccinated. Thankfully for Mia and a few of her other siblings the pet shop owner released them to our rescue partners before it was too late for them. Mia is not only incredibly adorable but she also has a sweet disposition! Like most of our cats, she allows all handling by her people! She is currently in foster care with many other cats, she does well with children, but we do not know how she may react to dogs, so we will test her to see if she would be a good fit for a home with a dog. *We prefer that adopters with a dog have had their dog introduced to cats in the past (if not already living with cats) so that the dog already knows how to respect a cat's boundaries. Mia has been fixed, and is fully vaccinated (1 year rabies and 2 x FVRCP/distemper), she is blood tested negative for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) and FLeV (feline leukemia), she is microchipped, and she has been treated for all parasites. To be considered for adoption for any of our available cats, you must submit an adoption application found on our website below; https://savingfancycats.org/adoption-application Even though all cats are healthy on the day of travel to the USA, all cats will spend 14-21 days at our cattery in New Jersey post arrival. This is to ensure the cats do not develop any post travel health issues that we need to treat prior to adoption. All adopters must be willing and able to travel to NJ to meet and pick up the cat(s). We do not adopt outside of a 200 mile radius from our northern NJ base. We read every application that is submitted and it can take us 3-5 business days to respond to most applicants. If we believe you may be a potential match for the cat(s) we will respond to you via email. This email will detail all the next steps required in order for you to be officially approved as an adopter. Our email can easily be flagged as spam/junk so please check those folders for our response. We will ask all potential adopters who pass the first step to submit/complete the following; -2+ personal references -1+ veterinary reference -home interior photos/videos or in person tour -your building's pet policy from management or your landlord (if you rent) -1+ alternative designated caretaker(s) for the cat(s) -scheduled phone interview with a member of our team *General inquiries about any cat cannot be responded to without an application submitted first. If the cat is on petfinder.com the cat is still available. The adoption fee is posted on the pet's profile on petfinder.com (not the app) and it is non-negotiable as it covers all vetting and travel expenses for this cat and assists our rescue partners overseas in the expenses they have in the process of rescuing cats found on the streets. What your (tax deductible) adoption fee/donation covers: Spay/Neuter surgery Full vaccinations (2 x distemper/FVRCP and feline rabies) Blood Tests - FIV, FLeV, Heartworm, in some cases additional blood work Anti-Parasitics - all cats are dewormed, treated for fleas/ticks, ear mites. Microchipped - All cats have a registered microchip Travel Passes/Fees- the adoption fee also pays for the cat's travel from Egypt or other country to the USA. *Please keep in mind that a majority of the cats for adoption from the Middle East were found in terrible condition, some requiring extensive veterinary care and/or surgery. We do not increase the adoption fees despite the additional funds used to rehabilitate these cats. **You may see our cats posted on petfinder elsewhere, or other adoption sites with our rescue partners in Canada and Europe! We are working together to find great homes for these cats and move them out of the Middle East to make space for more! If the cat is still on petfinder.com he/she is available but all potential adopters will be notified if their status changes. ***Can't adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring one or more of the cats on our petfinder page so that we can assist our rescue partners with food and litter and proper veterinary care.
