Hello! My name is Miss Opal, and I am an 11.5-year-old black and white lady of refined tastes. You see, I know what I want in life—soft beds, gentle pets, and a nice brushing session whenever I see fit. Some might call me lazy, but I call it luxury.
I’ll be honest with you—I'm a bit of a chubby girl, but that just means there’s more of me to love! My favorite hobbies include lounging in cozy spots, soaking up sunbeams, and making sure my humans understand that affection should be freely given at all times. Unless I don't want it! But that will be for me to decide, and I hope you can read my body language because I'll let you know if I've had enough. It doesn't happen often, I love attention, but just know that sometimes I need a break too. I don’t ask for much—just love, commitment, and maybe a little extra room for my fluffy self to stretch out.
Now, there’s one little thing you should know about me: I have diabetes. But don’t worry! Right now, it’s in remission thanks to a proper diet, and I don’t need insulin or special medicine. However, there’s always a chance it could come back. That means my future adopter needs to be financially prepared for insulin costs and, more importantly, willing to give me my medicine if I ever need it again. It’s not a big deal—I promise, I’m a champ about it!
I wish I could say my journey has been easy, but the truth is, I’ve been adopted three times and brought back. Once because someone in the home had allergies. Once because I swatted at someone who was being a little too rough with me (a lady has boundaries, after all!). And once because my person couldn’t afford my insulin. After that, I went into a foster home with a truly wonderful person, and for a while, I thought I’d finally found my forever. But then my foster parent got very sick and couldn’t care for me anymore, and so, here I am—back in the shelter. Again.
I’m currently in the main adoption room at the shelter, and while the people here are nice, let’s be real—the kittens get all the attention. I see them bouncing around, stealing the spotlight, while I wait patiently for someone who understands that older gals like me have just as much love (if not more) to give. I’m not the cat for someone who just wants a pet in the background. I need a human who will truly be there for me, through snuggles and, if needed, through medical care.
It’s been hard. I try to stay hopeful, but sometimes I wonder… am I just too much? Too old? Too needy? Too easily overlooked in a room full of kittens? It’s exhausting, waiting and hoping and watching people walk past me. But I still believe that someone out there is looking for a cat like me—someone who will love me forever, not just for a little while.
If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who will happily curl up beside you and make every lazy afternoon feel like a dream, then I might just be your perfect match.
