Mr. Gray’s current foster first saw him last year on her front porch. A few months ago, he began hanging out in her backyard on the patio. He would follow her home on her walks after work. She learned that a car-repair-shop owner a block away had been feeding Mr. Gray for about six months — but doesn’t know where the cat came from. Mr. Gray loved getting pets from the customers and would jump in their cars.
One day, Mr. Gray waltzed right into his foster’s open basement door. “Well, now’s my chance to save him,” his foster thought. She took him to check for a microchip, but he did not have one. She didn’t want to see him living on the streets but also couldn’t keep him, so she contacted HART. She kept him in quarantine until his vet appointment. There, she learned he was already neutered so may have been owned at some point. She also learned he is negative for FeLV but positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). FIV+ cats can live full and happy lives, and the virus is not spread through casual contact. Mr. Gray shows no signs of FIV so far. Besides a skin issue (an apparent rash that he chews/scratches) not yet solved, his health seems good.

This 14-pound lover is all muscle, and sometimes he uses that muscle to keep the loving coming. “He reaches out with his paw to pull you closer to rub up against you,” his foster said. Mr. Gray loves to sit on his foster’s lap. He loves to rub against her legs and loves to have his head petted. His foster has not introduced him to her resident cats, but she recalls a time when another cat walked through her yard, and Mr. Gray continued sitting calmly on her porch. He also didn’t react when he caught a glimpse of her residents through a glass door. A proper and careful introduction is recommended in a future home.
The vet estimated Mr. Gray to be 2 to 3 years old. His vaccines have been updated, and he uses the litterbox well.
