My Story

Introducing Munchkin. If only she could speak…we know she’d have a story to tell. Back in May, Munchkins owners tragically passed away. The 4 dogs in the home were removed and brought to us.. but unbeknownst to us, Munchkin was there too. We were told by a trusted source there wasn’t a cat in the house and began taking care of the dogs for adoption(all four have found loving homes!) Flash forward to September 4th. We received a call from a contractor that he opened the door to the home and a cat scurried away. At that time, he thought her legs were broken because he said she couldn’t walk but was sliding away from him. He immediately called us and our staff immediately jumped in to help. The condition of the house made it incredibly hard to search for Munchkin, but we knew we weren’t giving up. We set traps and checked numerous times daily in hopes of catching her.. we had no luck. On September 8th, our staff entered the house once more to set more traps. Walking by the basement, a staff member shined light down to see eyes looking back at her. It was then we realized that the day she was spooked by the contractor, she fell into the basement and couldn’t get out as the stairs were rotted. She was cold, stiff, and giving up. For months, Munchin was alone in that house with no interaction.. just silence. She was living on molded food left in the house and we believe getting the last of her water source from the toilet. When she was in the basement for what we believe were those 4 days, she was eating paint and drinking rusty water. She couldn’t stand on her own anymore. She had sensitivity to light because she was in the dark for so long… We are truly devastated we didn’t know she was there sooner... We can’t imagine what she went through. Munchin was immediately given vet care. We knew it would be a rocky road, but she’s a fighter and wanted to live a happy life again. She has a gallop in her heart that the vet believes was caused by malnutrition. This could fix itself in time, but could also be present for life. She hadn’t had much of an appetite, but we’re getting there! She’s gotten energy back and has loved walking again! Munckin is such a sweet girl, and we knew she was loved very much. She is vocal and absolutely loves to he held. Being alone for months we expected her to be nervous of human touch, but she absolutely craves to be loved. Munchkin is allowed visitors, but we will be checking with our vet on when she’s ready to find a new loving, forever home. She is most definitely good with dogs, but does not like cats. She is approximately 5 years old.
