My Story

To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Ramona is a sweet 1 year old girl. Ramona has chronic rhinitis and uses an inhaler twice a day which manages her excess mucus production. This is what her foster human says about her: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Ramona is happy, playful, curious, energetic and enjoys being around her people Does the cat enjoy being pet? She enjoys being pet when she's in relaxation mode. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Head, back of neck mostly. But also sometimes her butt (her back but by her tail). Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? We used to scratch just inside our previous cats ears or rub her face and Ramona is not into either of those things. Does the cat come on your lap? She will come up on our laps or our chests while in bed but she doesn't settle there. If she's going to cuddle, she usually prefers between the legs or up against you somewhere. Does the cat like to be held? She'll tolerate it for a very short (20 seconds) amount of time. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Every night. She follows up upstairs when we head up and she loves making biscuits on the soft blankets and laying on the heating pad. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, she follows us around the house if we're moving between spaces, and licks our noses and makes little sounds once we start to stir in the morning. She'll jump up on our desks in the middle of the work day when she's not napping. Does the cat like to play? Yes! She'll play with still toys such as little springs or balls but she also likes the balls that move on their own or laser pointers. She also has zoomies a couple of times a day where she likes to dart up and down the stairs and back and forth on our main floor, sometimes with a spring in her mouth! We will also move our feet or hands around under blankets and she likes to go after those. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Springs, the Giociv Interactive Cat Toy (Amazon). She also enjoys watching "cat tv" with squirrels and birds on YouTube or watching them out the window. How vocal is the cat? An average amount. She'll meow when she is playing and has the spring in her mouth. She'll make little noises when waking us up in the morning. She occasionally meows when in her crate but not incessantly. And she will make a couple little meows when we're doing the inhaler. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She makes little trilling noises when waking us up in the morning. She'll occasionally meow when playing. You'll hear her breathing as she walks into the room when she's having a particularly congested day. And then when it's zoomie time and she runs across the wood floors, she somehow makes it sound like a kitty stampede despite her small size. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes, she enjoys scratching the cardboard scratcher on the floor and occasionally rips pieces off with her teeth. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes. Her litter box usage is 100%. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? She eats Redford Naturals wet food and Redford Naturals grain free dry food. We give her half a small can of wet in the morning and the other half in the evening and she eats maybe half of each serving. We always make sure there is dry food in her bowl and she grazes throughout the day. She's not particularly food motivated until it's time for Churu. She gets half a Churu after her morning inhaler and the other half after her evening inhaler. We've tried several other "treats" and she's not been interested. We'll also occasionally give her half a Tiki Cat Mousse instead of her wet food and she likes it but eats about the same amount. And we have water bowls on multiple floors, one of which is a fountain which she definitely likes to have available. Is the cat picky about food? She doesn't seem picky about her regular food. We just haven't found a treat she likes other than Churu. Churu is life. Note that she's not be interested in people food except for some canned tuna. What is the cat's favorite treat? Churu. All the flavors. She prefers to eat it from the little tube while you hold it. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? She has used her paws (claws in) to try and pull the Churu hand closer to her. She's also used her paws with claws in in the morning to touch our faces when she's licking our noses. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? She has never scratched us but did swat at my 7 year old niece one time who loves cats but Ramona did not seem interested in interacting with her and it seemed like she eventually just had to tell her to go away. She did allow me somewhat begrudgingly to trim her front claws so I'm confident and her new owner would be able to keep up with that. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? She's not initially social but she's certainly not afraid. She'll stay in the vicinity with new people and request attention from them like she would us after maybe an hour or so. The only new person she's not seemed interested in is my 7 year old niece and to my knowledge, that's the youngest age she's encountered. She was fine to be in the same room with her but didn't want to interact with her for an extended period of time. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren't covered by the previous questions? She's the first cat I've seen do a thing we call "4-wheel drive biscuits" where she kneads with all four paws at the same time. And she likes her back paws to be on your leg while she does it. She'll walk her back paws up and down your leg kneading while her front paws knead the bed. But the blanket's gotta be a soft one! In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? This cat is literally the nicest cat we've ever encountered. She likes to be in the same area whether she's having zoomies or napping. In the morning she'll wake us up as we begin to stir or our alarms go off (rarely before this). And her routine is to make little trills while licking our noses. When you get up, she's excited to have someone to hang out with. She's also very well behaved for her age (which I believe is about a year and a half?) She occasionally scratches furniture but prefers to scratch her cardboard. She'll grab a wire or string in her mouth when she sees it but only momentarily and I think her missing teeth prevent her from ever breaking these things. She never goes after people food and won't get up on the counter or table unless there's a reason to, like her food is there. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Her biggest challenge is clearly managing her chronic rhinitis. Most days she requires wiping of the mucus coming from her nose. Every other day we wipe off the dried bits with a wet cotton ball and it takes a minute to get her in position for this but then she seems to like the wet on her nose. She also requires an inhaler for 2 puffs twice a day. She never runs from the sight of the inhaler but will typically pull her face away at least once while you are doing it. She also leaves a lot of mucus around the house when she sneezes (though the majority of it she cleans up by herself which was initially gross but we got used to). As she's not a shy cat, I do think someone else would be able to give her an inhaler if her owner needed to travel but I don't think she'd be content to be alone several days at a time. I think she could adjust to a new environment pretty quickly as she was with her last foster for 6 months and seemed quite comfortable with our place within about 24 hours and even had developed some routines 2 or 3 days in. Other than the rhinitus, she is an absolutely perfect and sweet kitty.
