My Story

Introducing Sava (which means little old man in Russian) he is an adorable gray tabby Persian male cat with light green eyes! He is approximately 3 years young and available for adoption. Sava is one of the many that we are rescuing from the Middle East (there are now over 200) that are part of our international cat rescue mission! This rescue mission has become critical as the conflicts in the Middle East are increasing the number of cats being brought into Egypt by rescues who are fleeing Lebanon and Syria for safety! Why is he here? Sava was found in a garbage bin in the middle of the hot Egyptian summer! Someone had placed him in a trash bag and threw him in!! It was absolutely a horrific situation and thankfully his cries for help were heard and he was saved before he died in that bin! He is the sweetest, docile boy, who wants nothing more than a little attention! These horrific rescue stories are all true, and very real for our rescue partners overseas. We are lucky that they haven't burned out from compassion fatigue, but they have no choice but to stay in it...there are not enough angels on the ground to save all these cats in need. Sava has been thoroughly vetted prior to adoption including spay/neuter surgery, fully vaccinated (rabies and distemper), blood tested negative for FIV and FLeV, microchipped and treated for all parasites. Sava (and a majority of our purebred cats) is currently located in Cairo, Egypt with our rescue partners, and will likely be taking our next flight to the USA. To be considered for adoption of any of our available cats, you must submit an adoption application found on our website below; https://savingfancycats.org/adoption-application Even though our international cats are healthy on the day of travel to the USA, all cats are required to spend ~ 14-21 days in our cattery in New Jersey prior to moving into their new home. This is to ensure the cats do not develop any post travel health issues that we need to treat prior to adoption. All adopters must be willing and able to travel to NJ to meet and pick up the cat(s). We do not adopt outside of a 200 mile radius from our northern NJ base. We read every application that is submitted and it can take us 2-4 days to respond to most applicants. If we believe you may be a potential match for the cat(s) we will respond to you via email. This email will detail all the next steps required in order for you to be officially approved as an adopter. Our email can easily be flagged as spam/junk so please check those folders for our response. We will ask all potential adopters who pass the first step to submit/complete the following; -2+ personal references -1+ veterinary reference -home interior photos/videos or in person tour -your building's pet policy from management or your landlord (if you rent) -1+ alternative designated caretaker(s) for the cat(s) -scheduled phone interview with a member of our team *General inquiries about any cat cannot be responded to without an application submitted first. If the cat is on petfinder.com the cat is still available. Adoption fee is non-negotiable. What your (tax deductible) adoption fee/donation covers: Spay/Neuter surgery Full vaccinations (2 x distemper/FVRCP and feline rabies) Blood Tests - FIV, FLeV, Heartworm, in some cases additional blood work Anti-Parasitics - all cats are dewormed, treated for fleas/ticks, ear mites. Microchipped - All cats have a registered microchip Travel Passes/Fees- the adoption fee also pays for the cat's travel from Egypt or other country to the USA. *Please keep in mind that a majority of the cats for adoption from the Middle East were found in terrible condition, some requiring extensive veterinary care and/or surgery. We do not increase the adoption fee despite the additional funds used to rehabilitate these cats. **You may see our cats posted on petfinder elsewhere, or other adoption sites with our rescue partners in Canada and Europe! We are working together to find great homes for these cats and move them out of the Middle East to make space for more! If the cat is still on petfinder.com he/she is available but all potential adopters will be notified if their status changes. ***Can't adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring one or more of the cats on our petfinder page so that we can assist our rescue partners with food and litter and proper veterinary care.
