My Story

During a winter storm, Tom got fed up with living outdoors and decided to become a housecat. He pawed at the front door of a cat-loving home, and when they opened it, he invited himself right in. His finders said that "since then, he's been nothing short of a gentleman. Tom looks like a tough guy but he's really a gentle giant. Tom mainly wants to curl up in a cozy spot and snooze all day. He also adores scratches behind the ears and looks forward to his evening treats. Tom is potty trained and is able to use both a regular litter box and an electronic litter box." Something unique about Tom is that he has FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). Many cats with FIV live long and happy lives! This virus affects the immune system, so Tom's adopters need to be diligent about medical issues and veterinary care. It is not contagious to people or non-cat animals. It is recommended that Tom be the only cat in the home or live with other FIV+ cats. Come visit and meet Tom today! If you'd like to meet our available pets, please check the "shelter information" box on the listing to see if the pet is located at our Fairfax Campus (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) or our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton). Then, come in during our open hours! Both of our locations are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information on our adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/adopt
