My Story

Name: AJ Age: Approximately 8-9 months old Gender: Male (Neutered) Weight: 7 kg (~15 lbs) Energy Level: High – Full of playful energy and enthusiasm, , as expected for a puppy his age. He thrives on playtime and enjoys engaging with people and other dogs. More videos and pictures: [https://photos.app.goo.gl/wvs1M3NKNzb9VJqi8] Rescue Story AJ was abandoned alongside his siblings, including Winnie (also available for adoption), in a liquor box left in front of a high-kill shelter in Hongsung, South Korea. In this region, many dogs are chained to short metal tethers to guard agricultural properties or tragically face the illegal dog meat trade. Thankfully, AJ was rescued and brought into loving foster care, where he’s been learning how wonderful life can be in a safe and caring environment. Personality & Behavior • With Women: Initially shy but quickly warms up with treats and gentle interaction. • With Men: Hesitant at first but responds positively to patience and kindness. • With Children: AJ approaches young girls with curiosity and warmth but is more reserved with energetic boys. If overwhelmed, he calmly moves away to a quiet spot. • With Large Dogs: AJ shows no aggression and approaches larger dogs playfully. However, his playful nudges and teasing might be too much for dogs who prefer calmer interactions. • With Small Dogs: He thrives with small, playful dogs and enjoys energetic rough-and-tumble games. AJ particularly bonds with the foster family’s young adult female dog, often playing and running together. • With Cats & Other Animals: AJ shows curiosity toward cats, birds, and small animals but does not exhibit aggression. Gentle redirection helps when he becomes too focused on them. Home Life & Training • Separation Anxiety: AJ has adjusted well to being left alone and does not show signs of separation anxiety. • Destructive Behavior: While not destructive overall, AJ occasionally chews on cushions and soft items, often looking for hidden “treasures.” Providing durable toys and enrichment activities will help redirect this puppy behavior. • Car Rides: AJ rides well in the car and shows no signs of motion sickness. He will sit calmly after the initial excitement wears off. • Leash Skills: AJ is enthusiastic about walks but tends to pull when he’s excited or picks up interesting scents. He’s improving with consistent training and will benefit from a patient handler. • Bathing & Grooming: AJ is not a fan of baths and will try to escape. While he’s not aggressive, he needs reassurance and gentle handling to get through bath time. A low-pressure water stream and towel drying work best for him. • Crate Training: AJ has not been extensively crate-trained, as he prefers staying with his people or on the floor. • Vocalization: AJ doesn’t bark excessively, but he is vocal when he’s excited or when there’s food nearby. He may whine or “talk” when he’s trying to get attention or treats. Potty Training • AJ is fully outdoor potty trained. He has developed a consistent bathroom routine, going outside during his daily walks and playtimes. Favorite Things • Food & Treats: AJ loves his salmon-based high-quality kibble and enjoys all treats without being picky. • Playtime: Tug-of-war and playing fetch are AJ’s favorite activities. He also loves playing with small, energetic dogs and exploring outdoor spaces. • Attention: AJ adores being around people and will seek belly rubs or gentle pats. He’s a dog who craves interaction and connection with his family. Ideal Home AJ is looking for an active, patient family who understands his high energy level and puppy tendencies. He would thrive in a home that offers: • Regular exercise, such as multiple daily walks, playdates, or trips to a dog park. • A canine companion to play with, as AJ adjusts more quickly when other dogs are present. • A loving family willing to continue his basic training and help him build confidence. AJ would do best in a home where he is not left alone for extended periods and can enjoy plenty of interaction, affection, and playtime. Adoption Information AJ is neutered, fully vaccinated, and up to date on flea/tick preventatives and deworming. • Adoption Fee: $650 (includes international transportation from South Korea to the U.S.). • Required Items: Adopters must prepare a Tractive GPS collar or Fi collar and a Ruffwear Webmaster Harness for AJ’s safety. • Trial Period: A two-week trial period is included to ensure a good match and commitment.
