My Story

I'm Alpha, and I'd like to introduce you to myself and my sister Petra. We're not littermates, but Petra and I have lived together for several years, and we are a package deal. We recently had to be returned to Prison Greyhounds (through no fault of our own - our family would have loved to keep us, but luckily they loved us enough to realize returning us was the right choice since their situation had changed). Both of us are retired racers, cat safe, and do well with kids. We both have great leash manners, and we know so many tricks! They include: no, leave it, stop, go on, and lay down. Actually, now that I think about it... those might not be tricks. But we do know those words! Petra is ten years old, and just had a birthday on October 10. (My birthday is April 25, in case you were wondering!) While I like to follow Petra around, our adopter said Petra was "her little shadow". She's a very happy, lovey, tail-wagging kind of dog, although she does prefer her people over strangers. Petra is a big fan of mine, too! Well, unless I take her spot on the bed at night - then she wonders what she ever did to deserve a sister. (Kidding! But she is quite possessive of her spot on the bed.) I am seven years old, and I'm the white dog with a bit of brindle and black ticking that you see in the photos. The most important thing you should know about me is that I adore Petra. I love to zoom around the yard and terrorize the squirrels, and occasionally terrorize Petra as well. (Not really! She's just a bit more low-key than I am, so sometimes I have to nudge her to get her to play with me.) While I sound high-energy, you could describe me as "the typical greyhound couch potato" most of the time. But when I get a burst of energy, I'm ready to play! One thing you should know about me is that I do have sleep startle. So between Petra's dislike of me in the bed, and my being grumpy to find anyone in the bed, our foster family is not allowing us on the bed at all - they hope they can break us of the habit of jumping on the bed before we are re-adopted. Instead, we'll need our own doggie beds, where we can have plenty of space. After all, being a bonded pair doesn't mean we need cuddle all night! Both Petra and I are healthy given our age, and we'll be getting our dentals done prior to adoption, since our teeth are in need of some work. We'll also be getting a Senior Wellness Panel and full exam, so we should be in tip-top shape! Petra does have some arthritis or general weakness in her hind in, but otherwise is doing great! I am totally healthy, as far as I know, but I must confess I have some thunder and fireworks anxiety. We are both eager to meet our new family! Our adoption fee is $500, together for both of us, and includes our fleece winter coats so we are all set for chilly adventures right from the first day we go home with you. If you'd like to learn more about Petra and myself, please contact Prison Greyhounds today! * * * * * Adopters must meet the following requirements: - Live in Indiana (Western Ohio, Northern Kentucky, or Eastern Illinois may be eligible depending on location and volunteer availability to conduct a home visit) - Primary applicant(s) at least 25 years old - Live in a home (no dorms, apartments, etc. - sorry!) - Fenced yard (no invisible fences) - Willingness to keep dog on a leash whenever not in a fenced yard We look forward to working with you to find your new best friend!
