My Story

Anna's foster mom says: Here is one "ready to play, snuggle, try new things and keep on moving" little gal! She came to Second Chance as a stray so nothing is known about her background, but we've discovered a lot about this little Cairn Terrier mix while she's been in her current foster home. She's about 2 years old, has had her shots, been dewormed, been spayed, and microchipped. She is negative for tick-borne diseases and is on a monthly heartworm preventative. She weighs about 20#. Any kind of toy seems to be a favorite - squeaky, hard, soft, or crinkly. She typically does not destroy her toys but does have a hard chew. She loves treats, but loves a good belly rub just as much. A second playful dog would be a plus. When she has to go outside she will try and get your attention and may whine and pace. For now we use a scheduled potty time but she does adapt well. She walks on a leash, usually follows but may pull when excited. A fenced yard is preferred as she runs for the joy of it and loves to chase balls! She will bring them back every time until she gets tired. Her name recall (we use Yanna) is very good as she is eager to please and be around her people! She is crate trained, knows a few commands - sit, leave it, settle, back up, and she rides in a travel kennel in the car without problems. She might enjoy an agility class. For the time being she is in a puppy pen during the day if we need to leave the house, usually not more than an hour or two. She does put her feet up against the counter when her meals are being prepared but does not search out food. She will jump on furniture but is content on the floor just as well. She ignored cats when we took her to the local pet store for a visit, plays well with other social dogs of all sizes, and dog savvy children. She sleeps in a crate at night. One thing to note: she should not be alone at night. For whatever reason it causes a high level of anxiety in her. She does fine all night as long as her people are in the same room. She will need grooming. How often depends on how you like your pets, but usually 4-6 times/yr. Regular brushing will be a must. Her adoption fee is $375.
