Apollo is a 7 year old (12/18/17), 60lb bob tail Red Tri Australian Shepard. He is a cuddly budwith lots of energy! As a purebred Aussie, you can bet he loves to work and play, but he’s also wicked smart (i think that’s what they say). Apollo is a “Velcro dog” in the truest form, but it’s just because he knows whatever you’re doing is really cool! He understands this can be a bit overwhelming and will take a hint that he needs to self-entertain, but you best not be laughing or making any noises from the other room because he gets terrible fomo. After all, you wouldn’t let him miss out on any of those cool activities, would you? He loves activity, and especially to play fetch. He likes chuck-it’s, dog parks, and is great on a leash. He’s not always the best about letting others know when he’s anxious, and will let it be known if he gets too uncomfortable, but if you watch for his signs of discomfort and remind him to relax, he is affable and smiling in no time. He even has his special collar (this is not an e-collar or prong collar) that reminds him to relax and play it cool when things get spooky. Much like the Greek he’s named for, he is protective of his family and territory. If you’re not on the list, you’re not getting it. And that’s 21+, no kids allowed! But if you are permitted entry (which very few are) he drops the intimidating demeanor and is as sweet as can be, loves cuddles and to horse around, and you better not be holding out on those butt scratches! He likes toys he can rip apart or gnaw on, firehouses and kings are great because they’ll last a long time! What’s that? Oh, Apollo asked me to remind everyone that that was the old him (he’s toned down a lot since the anti anxiety medication). Apollo is free when mom and dad are away, but he gets pretty lonely and sleeps all day! He can spend the night in his crate, but he likes to keep watch, or warm up your toes when you’re not wearing socks. Sorry for rhyming, it comes from his ancestry. He’s named for the Greek god of music and poetry! He’s a companion, nothing out of the ordinary you would expect from an Australian Shepherd, happier when exercised, loves a job and to follow directions, takes really well to training, and hates delivery drivers. We’ve had Apollo since he was 6 months old. But we realized quickly he had trademark signs of behavior/neglect/socialization issues he likely experienced as a puppy. Throughout the years we’ve done our best to quell those issues and provide him the happiest pup life that was possible, including extensive training. But it did not change his behavioral issues with kids and guests, and our infant has already had multiple close calls with him. Keeping him separated all the time is not the life he deserves. What is Apollo seeking in his Forever Home? ? Active owners with an active interest in Aussies and their demeanor ? Apollo needs a home without a lot of variability, not a lot of irregular visitors, no children. ? A large yard or farm would be best, somewhere that he can work a job, show train, or agility train would be a great plus. Fence would be good, but he’s not one to wander. ? He has a puppy sibling currently, but they are certainly more roommates than friends. They get into spats but he has never harmed his furry sister. He is not territorial, but he will steal food or toys, and a new sibling should be introduced cautiously. Apollo is a Greek god and is hungry for a new adventure, hold on, he just turned to me and said “What ever happened to that Marsyas fellow? That guy had guts!” I think that's your queue! Apollo may be a Greek god but please don’t feed him grapes. ******************** Does Apollo sound like the perfect addition to your family? Serious inquiries only.
