Baker is an active, 9-pound, long-haired Dachshund mix puppy of 5 months, with beautiful brown and beige coloring. His coat is slightly coarse but soft and shiny. He will be a great dog for anyone, especially if you don't want grooming bills.
Baker is somewhat sight-impaired. He has cloudy eyes but seems to be able to see well enough to run all around the yard and house without bumping into things. He does have some sight, but is limited in his ability to observe details. He seems to be dealing with it just fine. It's possible that his sight may get worse eventually; we don't know. Blind dogs are not hard to care for and can learn everything most dogs can learn. They just depend more on scent and hearing and an understanding owner. Once they memorize furniture placement, doors, steps and where their food is, they behave pretty much like sighted dogs.
Baker is smart and active, loves running around when taken outside. He is doing well with potty training, and his foster mom will be training him to use the doggie door.
He is doing well with the resident dogs who are slightly larger than him. He loves to cuddle his human in the evening or at couch time. He's only been in rescue for a few days so we haven't leash tested him yet. He is cooperative but cautious when called to come. He is fitting in well in his foster home.
Baker is healthy, eats well, loves large beef bones, is well-muscled, well proportioned, not terribly long bodied for a doxy (which is good for his spine); maybe that's because he is a mix of some sort. He is not neutered yet, and the adopter will be contractually responsible for this procedure when he is old enough.
Baker is a total love bug and will make a great companion for any family with gentle hands and voices, and the patience to train a puppy.
