My Story

I AM SPONSORED BY SONDRA HURFORD! Meet Baku, a Shepherd/Heeler mix with a heart full of love. His personality is a delightful blend of sweetness, friendliness, and goofiness that never fails to brighten up the day. Baku is a smart cookie who loves a good puzzle toy, and his playful, energetic nature means he's always up for a game of fetch or a fun training session. He's got a knack for making people laugh with his funny antics, and his loyalty knows no bounds. Baku is more than just a shelter dog; he's a friend waiting to share a lifetime of joy and companionship. With his radiant personality and boundless energy, Baku promises to fill his forever home with laughter, love, and lots of fun. Adopt Baku, and let his sweet spirit bring a sparkle to your everyday life. Baku is a 1 - 2 yr old male Shepherd/Heeler mix. He has a high energy level, so he would benefit from an active family with a fenced yard and plenty of space for daily exercise and play. He can be shy initially, but warms up quickly to new people. He is loose and wiggly when greeting, and comes when called for snuggles and kisses. Baku does moderately pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, he should be walking like a champ in no time! He is food motivated and knows the command sit. He mixes well with other dogs in a kennel and is afraid of cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting.
