Barney

Barney is currently in a foster home in Houston, TX and is eligible to transport to an adopter as soon as one is lined up. Meet Barney! Barney is an adorable 6 year old male, pitbull terrier mix. He is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated & ready to find a family to call his own! Barney was found running around a parking lot with a heavy chain around his neck. He had wounds on his neck and body from the chain. Thankfully, a kind woman picked him up and was able to get him to safety. Barney is classified as dog selective. We think he would do best in a home as the only dog, but he is able to walk past other dogs on leash and not be bothered by them. Barney would also prefer a home without cats. Barney's foster describes him as having a medium energy level. He would be perfectly content with walks with his family or running around in the backyard. Barney does better with older children. He is around a teenager currently and does fantastic with him! The teenager takes him for walks and rollerblading. Barney doesn't like his face being touched out of the blue, so he would not be suited for a home with small children. Barney is fantastic on a leash. He is a great follower. He might pull here and there, but with a quick tug at the leash, he's back on track! Barney is house broken and crate trained. He is currently left in the crate while his foster steps out to run errands or goes to work and he does well in the kennel. Barney's only quirk that his foster can think of is that he can be possessive of his ball. This can be corrected with training or by not giving him a ball. Barney's energy level would be good for someone who is semi-active. He loves daily walks, but isn't going to be anyone's marathon buddy. He loves his people once he warms up to them. He adores human affection, loves to play fetch with any kind of toy, he's a great car rider and loves to stick his nose out the window and lastly, he loves his starbucks puppachinos! Barney can be nervous when meeting new people / strangers, but within a few minutes he warms up very quickly! The ideal home would be someone where he can be understood and his needs are met. He needs a family who will be patient with him and give him time to warm up. He loves direction and structure, it makes him feel relaxed. He is a lovebug and would love an assertive owner.
