My Story

Barney is one of those dogs that insists you don't judge him based on his looks. Beyond the big frame and few small scars, this boy is gentle, loving, affectionate, and is going to be someone's biggest fan and loyal companion. Barney is a model of big boy that is touch activated. All you have to do is touch him to see his tail start to wag. The voice activation is set to sweet talk. He lights up and that tail gets going with the slightest big of sweet talk and only grows with love and enthusiasm. Whatever his past held, his spirit is untouched, inside he is just a loving boy who is happy to share a quiet moment or snuggle up on the couch. The word polite rarely gets used to describe a dog but honestly, Barney is one of the most polite dogs. From the way he seeks attention/affection to his leash walking and everything in-between. If you are close he will slightly lean into you, look up, then patiently wait for you to love on him. Barney has been fortunate to be fostered in a loving home while he waits for his forever family. This gives him a wonderful head-start at being a well-mannered house dog. His foster family has nothing but praise for him, describing him as a total-love bug with a loving presence. Plus, he is house-trained and crate-trained! One of my favorite things with the big dogs is when they are gentle on leash, it feels so good to walk a big dog with ease and Barney does not disappoint. If you watch his profile video you will see his unbothered personality and slow & steady pace. He is happy to take your pace and with his person by his side, the rest of the world doesn't really matter much. Even an overly excited dog passing him on leash didn't grab his attention. When we introduced Barney to other dogs we saw the same consistent easy-going guy. He isn't a very playful guy, no bouncing around or games of chase for him, he is more of the good-company and chill-vibes type. A few of the dogs he met were a bit pushy and vocal but it didn't bother Barney at all, he almost seemed to neutralize it with his chill energy. Barney lives with a handful of other dogs in his foster home and enjoys the company of medium to low energy dogs. His ideal forever home could be with another dog but he would also be perfectly content as an only dog - more love and snuggles for him. Thanks to his ease on leash, he will be physically and mentally satisfied with walks and occasional adventures. When you have to leave, he will snooze away quietly in his crate. Truly an easy boy to call yours. Barney was not introduced to young children but his calm nature tells us he will likely be a perfect gentleman. If you have kids and would like to know more about his approach to kids we are happy to spend time with him in a family with kids home. Older kids would be a great fit, as long as they love to snuggle with a velvety hippo. The only limitation on Barney is, no cats for him. When we introduced Barney to our house cat Tom he was very interested in getting closer and given his size, even if it was innocent, it would cause chaos and surely upset most cats. Barney is a gentleman with some life experience, he knows the power of love and a soft heart, he just needs somewhere to call home. If you have been looking for a big ol' hippo type whose love language is physical touch, look no further- its Barney! Why adopt from Three Little Pitties? The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you've found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it! Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dogs needs. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be! It doesn't stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks: - 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion (must register within 24 hours of first vet appt.) - A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx. $25 weekly for an 8 week course of one session per week) - One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan - 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan - Coupons for a fun visit to Petco - Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!
