My Story

A mistake was made. We're a dog shelter. We take dogs. Someone left us a teddy bear. We debated what to do. He's a bit too wiggly for the donation shed, too fluffy to be a volunteer, and entirely too cute to turn away. So we decided to find him a home. Meet Bear, a 1.5-year-old Horkie. What's a Horkie, you ask? It's what happens when a Husky and a Yorkie somehow combine forces and create something both magical and mildly confusing. The result is a medium-sized adventurer with the heart of a sled dog and the snuggle level of your favorite childhood stuffed animal. Bear is the kind of dog who thinks strangers are just friends he hasn't met yet. He's smart, playful, and knows when it's time to romp and when it's time to curl up like a fuzzy little loaf of love. He was surrendered when his person had to start traveling a lot for work, and it wasn't fair to keep Bear waiting. In the home, he was housetrained, non-destructive, and a total gentleman. Bear's healthy, happy, and more than ready to trade shelter life for a forever spot on someone's couch. Or lap. Or hiking trail. Not the stuffed animal bin, though. Bear would get lonely. So if you've been dreaming of a teddy bear who also comes when called, cuddles back, and chases squeaky toys, Bear is your guy. Come see your childhood best friend in dog form at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton. Visiting hours are daily, 9am to noon, including weekends & holidays. Interested?
