My Story

We named him Beau. . He is in Greensboro nc. He is 3 years old. He is a male. He weighs 74 lbs He entered the shelter at 72 lbs. he is up to date on every single shot and on Trio heart worm meds. He came to me heart worm positive but he has completed his treatments and is clear. He was at the vet today, March 4, 2024. No known heath issues. He is kinda chill for a boxer. He was definitely an inside dog before. He loves to stand beside mom in the kitchen. At night he just wants to be in the same room with everyone. He likes having his own raised dog bed. He is just learning to play with toys. He plays very well with one of my GSPs but the other one isn’t crazy about him. They play well in the yard together but my other doesn’t share toys. He likes being in the yard and trotting around but he likes it best when someone or my other dog is out with him. He doesn’t like being in the yard very long by himself. He is crate trained at all times and house potty trained. He will tell you when he needs to go outside. He sleeps through the night from about 10-730. We love this dog. He is very easy to take care of. But we signed up to foster and not have a 3rd dog. I’m now retired and we want to save and rescue dogs that are in need. For some reason Beau was 90 minutes from being put down for space at Cumberland County Shelter. Why I don’t know because this dog is simple. Obviously an inside dog as he prefers being inside and in 24 hours he was going to the door or he would whine when he had to go out. You take him out and he goes in 30 seconds and he comes back in. He does not have a microchip but I am getting him one this week in my name. It can be changed over later but I don’t want anything to happen to him. We love this dog. If we did not have the large alpha GSP from Germany we would not be having this conversation.. I have not seen him with cats but doubt this will be an issue. He is good with kids however he is a strong dog. Someone below about 12-13 can’t walk this dog right now. He does well with me on walks after the first 100 yards. He just loves walks but he pulls at the beginning. A pinch collar and a vest is helping. He gets out 5-6 times a day. 1 walk a day and lots of backyard free play time. He loves ca4 rides and he gets one every night. I have introduced him to a convertible and he loves that. Ears flopping in the wind is new for him. He lets me take his food from him and takes treats gently. I do feed all my dogs separately. Currently he sleeps in the laundry room and I have one of mine in a crate. He has slept in a bed with humans before. He is never left alone more than 2 hours a day as both my wife and I are retired. He eats 4 cups a day with cup at lunch. We cut him back from 5 once we got his weight back up. However he will eat all you give him. He loves to eat. We feed him Purina Pro Plan for Sporting Dogs. If I need to help with any health issues going forward I will. He is a super dog and he is easy. I would adopt him if I could. He would do best as either an only dog as long as people are around or a female dog or a male dog that isn’t dominant. Vet is Christine Hunt at University Animal Hospital in Greensboro. 336-279-1003. Owner is me, Kirk Sparks 336-312-1032 or [email protected]
