My Story

Birdie (formerly Belinda) is a bundle of smarts and spunk, ready to entertain her new family with silly antics. She’s a playful, fearless, and endlessly curious young pup who will steal your heart in no time. She’s a Shepherd mix, 41#, born in April 2024. Whether it’s a game of tug, solving a doggie puzzle, or chasing tennis balls, Birdie wants to do it all. She’s happiest exploring the world—car rides, hiking, or tackling new challenges like learning manners and tricks. She is the ultimate partner for anything her people want to do, from early morning runs to weekends checking out state parks. We easily picture her skijoring or snowshoeing in winter, and enjoying time at the lake cabin in summer. At home, Birdie is keenly observant, keeping a close eye on people, cars, and wildlife that wanders through the yard. She's communicative, often signaling her wishes with a clever look—like staring at the freezer for a peanut butter kong. Her crate is a cozy retreat, where she happily goes for a chew or to chill out. Birdie will thrive with an active, adventurous family who matches her energy and love of exploration. Families with older kids are a great fit, as are energetic canine siblings who match her playstyle. She’s a bit too exuberant for small kids or kitties. A fenced yard is ideal, and families with a history of keeping dogs safe will also be considered. Birdie is wicked smart and highly trainable. She’s still a young pup working on manners like polite greetings, using her teeth on appropriate toys and staying off countertops. On leash, she is excited to see new people and dogs. With consistent training, she is learning that good things come when she is in a calm, relaxed state. She is sweet, loving, and endlessly loyal. Her bright personality ensures life with her will never be dull. If you’re ready for a dog who’s equal parts kangaroo and cuddle buddy, Birdie’s the one for you. APPLY TO ADOPT her at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Birdie is being fostered in St. Anthony, MN. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul. Birdie's adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. She is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. All of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
