My Story

Blackie is a 1-year-old (estimated) Chihuahua mix with a heart full of love and a gentle soul. This sweet boy was found as a stray in a rural parish, hanging around an animal lover’s property and begging to come inside for a chance at safety & comfort. When no one came forward to claim him after his stray hold was up, we welcomed him into rescue to find him the best home on the planet! Here’s what we’ve learned about Blackie so far: • He’s a respectful houseguest who didn’t disturb anything while sleeping in the shop. • He’s polite during mealtime, showing no food aggression even when being petted while eating. • Blackie is a quiet boy—his finder has never heard him bark! • He’s great with other dogs, even when bigger pups came into the yard, & he doesn’t bother the neighborhood cats. • While he’s a little skittish at first, he warms up quickly and is very loving. • At ~25 pounds, Blackie is the perfect size for cuddles and companionship. Blackie might not know what to do with toys yet, but he’s eager to learn & explore what it means to be a cherished pet. With his sweet disposition & gentle nature, he’s ready to find a forever family that will show him love and patience as he adjusts to his new life. Blackie is now updated on vaccines & scheduled for his neuter procedure soon. Apply to meet him today, but only if you know you can give this boy a loving fur-ever home! PLEASE READ BELOW: If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to please visit our website to complete an application and read all of our FAQs: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt **Please do not use the "Introduce Yourself" feature. The information needed to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application. An inquiry, questions or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application. All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info would be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the number of introductions/questions received (hundreds daily) we ask you submit an application on our website (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue). The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention. Please see our website for more information. 2022 Adoption Fee Scale for non-benefactor animals: Puppies under 12 months - $350 Dogs over 12 months - $250 For additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets, see our FAQs page: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/faq *Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed. Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as Pet Finder, and are no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed. *Take Paws Rescue saves dogs from high-kill shelters in Southeast Louisiana, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our puppies live in foster homes where they are socialized, and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it’s the perfect match!
