My Story
Are you looking for a SUPER SMART dog? Well, we have one.
Breezy is looking for her forever home after being an unclaimed stray in a southern shelter. She is a 2 year old, 56# female Standard Poodle / Australian Shepherd mix with a ton of personality and intelligence. In the first 12 hours of her being at her foster home, she learned three talking buttons (outside, toy, and puzzle) - We had to put the puzzle away because she pressed it continuously for more treats! She has mastered four doggy puzzles so far and has learned several new tricks. Breezy has a lot of energy and would play all day long - she needs a home with another playful dog about her size and someone who is home much of the time or able to take her to work – she gets bored without stimulation. You need to accept the challenge of staying one step ahead of her !
She does well with all-sized dogs and children (foster’s children are ages 4 & 10).
She is perfectly potty trained and has had no accidents in her foster home (which has hundreds of dog smells, so very tempting). Foster has a dog door and she loves to be outside and find outside treasures. She will need a fenced yard with a secure fence that is at least 5 ft. high.
From her foster Mom: Breezy LOVES to chew. At her former foster home she was chewing things that didn’t belong to her, but at my house has only chewed dog things. I give her lots of options and make sure she is learning what is hers and what isn’t. She responds well to “no” and will drop something right away. She was hesitant to go on car rides because she lacked confidence, but now she jumps right in.
She doesn’t have recall skills yet and needs to be on leash if not in a fenced area. She loves to run and go on walks, and walks on a leash pretty well. I am confident she would learn VERY quickly and is incredibly smart & train-able.
She HATES being crated or gated. We don’t have kennels at my house but in her past, she has chewed through them. If she is gated away from her people, she will bark and be very anxious. We leave her with run of the house along with the resident dogs when we are gone and she is completely fine. She likes to look out the window and giving her a chew bone or kong full of food and peanut butter will help keep her busy.
She doesn’t shed very much unless she is nervous and will need occasional grooming.
Breezy is very entertaining and loves to sit in your lap or really on any part of you that she is allowed to. She sleeps on her back with feet sticking straight in the air and her tongue out. She loves to be in our bed at night, but is trainable and would sleep in a dog bed if taught to do so.
Recap:
Highlights: very smart, trainable, loving, playful, good with other dogs and kids, 100% house broken, minimal shedding, loves her person and is BEAUTIFUL.
Things to work on: chewing and loving “nibbles”, occasional jumping, anxiety on being gated/crated.
Needs: High-energy, needs stimulation, exercise, and someone to work with her and keep her engaged, best with another dog in the home to play with and someone who is home much of the time.
She will make a WONDERFUL companion for the right active person who wants to work with a SUPER smart dog. A dog trainer would especially be impressed with her intelligence and ease of training.
Breezy is spayed, up to date on Vaccines, and the Tick Panel was negative. Her heartworm test was positive, and she was treated in October of last year. She'll need a blood recheck between April-July of this year - this is mandatory to be certain that this test is negative for the heartworm antigen. Second Chance will cover the cost of this follow-up test. Her adoption fee is $400. Call 651-771-5662 if you are interested in meeting her.
