My Story

Please contact Sarah Maraschky ([email protected]) for more information about this pet.sweet boy ISO fresh start and love! BUCK NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Buck Best Guess for Breed: Cattle dog and heeler mix Best Guess for Age: 2.5 years as of November 2024 Gender:Male Approximate Weight: 40 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested if you have them. Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here after completing heartworm treatment Special Adoption Considerations: Buck is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Buck is Looking For: His forever home! Through no fault of his own, this sweetie ended up in the shelter. He's eagerly looking forward to once again having his own humans for long sniffy walks and romps in the park and all the adventures they can dream up. Buck has those penetrating eyes that suck you in and he's got that solid presence. And he promises to always keep that solid presence right by your side - he wants nothing more than to be a loyal companion and know he's safe and loved in exchange. What do you say? Is he the one for your home and your heart? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.
