My Story

APPLICATION IS REQUIRED BEFORE ANY ADOPTION CONSIDERED Background: Buddy is a 4 year old Yorkie mix with a checkered past. In August 2024, Buddy went to a clinic for his annual shots. However, while standing in line he was bitten by a large dog. Although he had no puncture wounds, he had two cracked ribs. This is a painful condition and can take months to completely heal. His owner couldn’t afford treatment, so he was surrendered to the local shelter. They neutered him and put him up for adoption and sent home with pain medication. The adopter was bitten as she forgot not to pick him up, so he was surrendered to a rescue, hoping to screen and educate his next adopter. While he was in his foster home, he also nipped the couple caring for him. Again, it seemed to center on touching the side that was still tender to touch. Currently: Buddy has been in his foster home since the beginning of the year. No bites, no nips and no growling. He is now terrified of large dogs and will go on the offensive if any large dog comes near him. He would do best in a home that would treat him like a cat...letting him come to them while in the house. He is housebroken with routine outings in a fenced yard, although he doesn't mind being on the leash, he can be reactive when seeing other dogs. No other pets or children for safety reasons. To see Buddy, please fill out an application on Suffolk Humane's website: www.SuffolkHumaneSociety.com.
