Meet Butler aka Butters!! He is a 44 pound, 1.5 year old male ACD mix. He came into foster care shut down and very fearful of humans. With patience, potty training, exposure and a lot of love,Butler has made wonderful progress and is really feeling a part of his foster family. Butler loves other dogs and plays very well with them without getting too rough. In fact, he looks to other dogs to learn what is safe in regards to humans. He also is coexisting peacefully with all the cats in the home.
Butler is working on his leash skills and will need more training. He pulls at first but then settles down and is more at home walking in the woods than on village streets. He does come back to you on leash every few minutes, to touch your hand and look up at you as if saying, How am I doing? He is lean and athletic and looks so handsome when he prances around! Butler can be avoidant of strangers he meets while walking and will pull away. However, if they have a dog he will go right up to them. He has been working on being exposed to a variety of new situations. He rides in the car well as long as his foster sister jumps in first!
Butler has grown to be a super affectionate boy. He loves to cuddle on the couch and ask for belly rubs. At night, he would sleep in your arms if you let him. He is very affectionate with his foster siblings also, licking them and asking to play by bouncing up and down, He has medium energy and his off button is located on the top of his forehead haha. 3 rubs on that spot and he is in a trance of pleasure! Butler is food motivated and has learned his name, the commands sit, stay, come and sit pretty.
Butler is crate trained and although he doesn't prefer it, he will go into his crate quietly with a good stuffed bone to occupy him. Butler is a wonderful dog but the caveat for adopters is that it will take him
an extended period of time to integrate into his new home. An ideal home will be one that is committed to helping him continue his healing journey from the abuse he has suffered. It will take some time
for him to adjust to his new family to become the dog we know he is in foster. Another friendly dog in the home that he can bond with and look to would be ideal and probably necessary.
He thrives on routine and can learn the rules of the household through his companion dog. He will need to live in a rural or suburban environment with no young children in the home.
Butler is fully vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. He is being fostered in Naples NY. If you would like to learn and discuss more about Butler, please email [email protected]
