Caitlin

Caitlin is a sweet girl who has stolen the hearts of many at Thrive. We think that she had a hard time before coming to us, as she will flinch when someone goes to touch her and needs slow introductions. Personality: She is a low energy dog and is happy to go on short walks 2x/day followed by napping for the remainder of the day. She forms a very deep bond with someone once she recognizes them to be a safe person, and will allow you to pet her super soft ears while she lays her head on your lap. Caitlin gets along well with most dogs but doesn't enjoy playing, and instead just wants to sit on the sidelines to watch. She has this cute little pep in her step on walks and has a freckled tongue that she loves giving kisses with. Training: Confidence is the number one thing that Caitlin needs, and has been working hard on this with the help of our trainers. Spending time sitting down next to her and allowing her to come over to you, bringing her on walks in shopping centers, allowing staff to brush her and leash her up, etc are all things that she would need continued help with as she transitions to a forever home. She does well in car rides, walks great on a leash, and is fully house broken/potty trained. The perfect forever family: Caitlin needs an adopter who will be patient with her - there is an incredibly loving girl underneath once you're able to gain her trust and show her that you're a safe person. She would do best in a home with two adults so that she has a companion at most times, and would love another doggie sibling to help her break out of her shell. Her best friend at Thrive is Kane, a pitbull mix. Foster home experience: Caitlin has been fostered with our Behavioral Director & Adoption Coordinator for the past several months where she has been getting a lot of opportunities to help her increase her confidence and work on training. She has made incredibly large strides of progress over the past few months and will happily hop up onto a couch or bed to cuddle right next to you, ask for pets, or hang by your side rather than hiding in a corner like she did when we first rescued her. She has had a huge turning point recently as of November 2024 where she is so much more confident and outgoing, and would need a family who continues to cheerlead her on. She currently lives with a large Shepherd mix in her foster home who has become one of her best friends, along with a cat. Caitlin is just happy to be involved with her humans once she forms a bond, and would make a fantastic companion dog. She loves going in the car for pup cups at Starbucks, and is happy to go on walks and adventures on hiking trails, streets, or shopping centers. Caitlin has been with us waiting for her forever home since April 2024. She is available for adoption to a family who is local to the San Diego area and is available and committed to come to Thrive for multiple meet and greets, as she will need time to warm up and adjust to new people and a new environment.
