My Story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Candice, 1y 6mo old spayed female, Shiba Inu/Chow Chow mix, 42 pounds. Candice is in a foster home in San Antonio, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Candice lives in a home with another dog and loves to play. Her brother, Bucky, is about 45 pounds and a bit bigger in height than she is, and she loves him. She was also at the shelter with her puppy, and in general does well no matter the size of dog she meets. She is very considerate and picks up cues well. When she sees her brother is done playing, she calms down and goes off to snooze. As soon as he's ready though, she picks up right where they left off playing and running for hours! She has a lot to say when she sees other dogs but she is extremely friendly with her canine friends, and just likes attention (who doesn't?). Once dogs get close enough to her, she wags her tail and attempts to initiate play, sniffing and trying to get closer to them, too. She's very high energy and plays pulling rope or just running around. Candice is good with children, she is a very calm dog when she isn't playing around. In general, we recommend homes with kids who are over the age of 10yrs or those who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues. That said, we have no reason to believe Candice would not be a great sibling to small babies. Candice hasn't been around cats in her foster home but when she seems them on her walks, she does try to chase them or scare them. Candice does okay on a leash, she often tries to pull if you aren't walking fast enough for her. All you have to say is "No pulling" and she’ll stop. She is very strong on leash so we'd recommend a harness or Gentle Leader head collar since she doesn't care that the Martingale collar is choking her, she’ll keep walking. Candice is still improving on her house skills, she's about 75% potty trained. Her foster says Candice doesn't alert when she needs to go especially at night, so sometimes she will have accidents seemingly out of the blue. Candice's new pawrents should understand that some regression is normal and to be expected until she gets settled into the new routine and learns the schedule. Candice is crate trained for up to 5hrs or more, usually when no one is at home. She does great and really enjoys her kennel time. She's not been allowed loose in the home when unsupervised because she has a lot of "puppy" in her and will chew plastic boxes, pillows and other easily shredded items. Candice needs a HIGH ENERGY home where she'll be active most of the day. In her foster home, Candice goes on a morning 5mi run and a shorter afternoon walk. Even after the runs, she still has her zoomies at home and her and Bucky run all over the house. Candice is very cuddly and loves her belly rubs and kisses. She's super affectionate and enjoys meeting strangers, although she will bark when she first encounters them. Once she has the opportunity to give them the sniff-spection, she's loosey goosey and ready to play. She's very loyal and will not leave your sight when outside and off leash. Candice's foster describes her as smart and independent, and says she's a pro at figuring out ways to sneak into their duck house. She will keep you on your toes and that is for sure! Candice would love to have a canine sibling or one of the two-legged variety to play around in the back yard and share her toys/treats with. She would be best served in a house with a back yard and lots of mental and physical enrichment opportunities. She would appreciate pawrents who are willing to work with her on the few manners she needs to improve before she is even more The Best Girl. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her?
