My Story

*** In order to alleviate the need to bring an animal into the shelter environment, The Anti-Cruelty Society has the Home-to-Home Shelter Bypass service to help people find new accommodations for their pets privately. These animals are not located in any of the Society's physical locations. If you are interested in adopting this animal, please do NOT click the Adopt Me button and instead reach out to the current owner directly via the email provided in the profile. As this is a Home-to-Home animal you are not required to fill out an Anti-Cruelty Society adoption application form.*** Charlotte is a beautiful 50-lb female pit mix. She loves everyone she meets, including kids. Charlotte is 100% housebroken and can be left alone for 6-8 hours (maybe more). I don't crate her but she doesn't mind her crate. She's not destructive when left alone. She doesn't mess with anything in the house unless you are ignoring her, then it's just to get your attention. She's healthy, isn't on any medications, and doesn't need a special diet. She's been to PetSmart dog training and knows the basics. This girl loves attention! She's happiest when someone is petting or at least touching her. When she wants your attention she will paw at you. Charlotte is a healthy young dog and has a lot of energy. She needs a walk a day, and a fenced-in yard is a big plus. She can jump a 4' fence, but mostly loves laying around in the sunshine. I adopted her in March from Chicago Animal Care and Control. She was a shy dog at the shelter but has gained a lot of confidence since then. I wanted an older, calm dog and that's what they thought she was. But now that she's back to a normal weight and feels secure in her home, it turns out she is a young, active dog! I'm not getting any younger and I need a calm, older dog or I would keep her for sure. She'd do great with a family or anyone who can give her lots of attention. She walks well on a leash but is reactive to other dogs when on leash. Off-leash she's great with other dogs! She'd probably do well in a house with another dog to play with. Charlotte is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on all vaccinations. I'm in one of the near-west Chicago suburbs. Please reach out to [email protected] for more information.
