My Story

This handsome boy is Chief and he's on the lookout for a forever home! Chief's previous adopter sent us some photos and a little bio about him. They say - He’s a working dog and his favorite job without question is bringing the ball back to you. He’s a maniac for fetch! - He’s super observant and very high energy. He’s naturally attuned to kids and would make an incredible playmate for school aged kiddos. His second favorite jobs is herding his people. His ideal home has little ones and someone who is around during the day. He’s a friendly pup and loves to give kisses. - He likes sitting calmly outside in the morning to watch squirrels and birds in the back yard. Ideally while being brushed:) third favorite job: squirrel patrol. - His favorite toys are balls. - He’s a really good eater. - He’s a beautiful short haired boy and really enjoys being brushed. The furminator works great on his coat and keeps him cool. - He really likes treats and that would be a good way to help him to learn new tricks or to walk on a leash. He needs a little help with that. - Chief is really smart and already knows sit, down, come, leave it, drop it, shake, all done, and ball commands. He needs some reinforcement with stay. He will paw you when he needs to go outside. He is house trained and doesn’t have accidents. - He takes about a day to relax into a new space and he whimpers when he’s nervous. He doesn’t bark in the house. Although Chief's original family stated he had grown up around other animals, in the shelter environment he has shown prey drive in passing an outdoor cat and some negative behaviors during his dog tests including things like excessive barking and dominant stances. It may be best for Chief to be the only pet in the home, though for a family with shepherd experience that has a solid plan to do slow introductions exceptions may be able to be made. Chief's adoption fee has been sponsored for an approved adopter. If he sounds like a great dog for your active family come meet him today! Chief is current on shots, licensed, and microchipped. All dogs over 6 months have been heartworm tested, and all dogs are treated monthly for fleas/ticks and are on Heartworm prevention (NexGard PLUS). All pets are spayed/neutered prior to a finalized adoption. All our dogs receive a behavior assessment before being placed for adoption to determine initial behaviors towards people and other dogs in the shelter environment. If you have questions about an animal please have their name and ID number ready and contact shelter staff by: (1) visiting Animal Friends during our open hours, (2) calling 513-867-5727, or (3) emailing [email protected]. WE HAVE MORE PETS IN THE SHELTER THAT ARE NOT ON PETFINDER. For our most up to date list of adoptable animals and access to our adoption application please visit: https://www.animalfriendshs.org/adopt/ Dog Adoption Fees: Puppies – 4 months and under: $200 Adult Dogs – 5 months and over: $95 Senior Dogs (7+ years old): $50 Breed listings: Please note that Animal Friends recognizes current research showing that the large majority of breed guesses on shelter dogs are inaccurate and that only a small percentage of an animal’s genetics makes up their physical appearance. People visiting the shelter in person or viewing animals on our website will note that all of our dogs are labeled as “Mixed Breeds” unless they have been DNA tested or are surrendered to the shelter with paperwork. Any potential breeds listed here on PetFinder are not assumed to be accurate and are merely a starting point for people to be able to search for a dog who may visually resemble a breed they are interested in. We feel that the best matches are made based on a dog’s individual personality and recommend families come meet our animals in person and/or utilize our Foster to Adopt program to see if that dog is a good fit for their home. Please reach out to Animal Friends team with any questions!
