My Story

Chutney is a smart, playful 10 week old possible Foxhound / Black Mouth Cur mix that weighs 11 lbs. He is expected to be around 55-60 lbs once he is full grown. Chutney is a friendly, silly pup that loves to make new friends, and is very polite with new people and animals when he first meets them. His curious and calm nature makes him the perfect pup for someone who enjoys spending time outside gardening or people watching at parks after walks. He is interested in watching the world around him, loves to observe and investigate new things, and is mindful in his approach to checking out new objects, environments, and animals. He is the most independent of his litter, so he doesn't follow the lead of the others and marches to his own drum beat. While the others are running and playing, he may venture off to snoot around the yard or go sunbathe while he watches his siblings wrestle. He is very smart, always eager to learn, and is extremely food motivated, so he's been able to pick up on some new training skills already in his foster home. His foster mom has been clicker training him, and being that this boy will do anything for a treat, he anticipates what command his foster mom is about to give and is ready to engage because he knows he will get a yummy snack after. Chutney is low to medium energy, so he is pretty mellow with short bursts of puppy energy that are easily burned with playtime in the backyard and chasing his toys in a game of fetch. As he grows, he will be able to go on longer walks or hikes on nature trails once his leash training has been perfected. He loves to play with his toys and his favorite are the stuffed ones that he enjoys de-stuffing. He also loves to play with enrichment toys like Kongs, snuffle mats, and treat dispensers. After playtime, he loves cuddling up on the couch or a dog bed for cuddle time and naps with his human. He isn't overly affectionate or needy, so if you don't feel like cuddling, he's perfectly happy just sitting next to you as he snoozes away. Although he loves to run around in the backyard to do puppy zoomies, he is very adaptable and would be able to adjust to leashed walks if his future home is in an apartment without a private yard. He would be a great pup to enroll in doggy day care to help burn some puppy energy and continue working on his socialization skills as he gets older if you work outside of the home or if he is the only dog in the home. Chutney is dog, cat, and kid friendly. He does well with dogs of all ages and sizes. He is very polite for a puppy and when he meets new doggy friends, he will wait for them to greet him first. Once he knows they're friends, he will turn into a silly puppy and engage in playtime. He loves to follow the older resident dog around the yard and observes what they do in order to learn new skills. He can be independent and doesn't need another doggy companion in his forever home, but is happy to play with other dogs every chance he gets. Although he loves other dogs, he is perfectly fine being a solo dog in the home as long as he gets plenty of time with his human. He is in a foster home with kitties and is interested in being their friend, too. Although the kitties don't engage with him much, he loves to watch them and tries to initiate playtime with them until they communicate they're done with his puppy antics, then he finds something else to entertain him instead. He is also in a home with a human toddler and loves to follow her around. He is very gentle when interacting with her and won't try to grab food/toys out of her hand. He would be a great pup for a family with kids of any age because of his sweet temperament and calmer demeanor when interacting with them. Chutney is kennel trained, and is currently working on mastering potty training and leash training. He has started transitioning from potty pads and a puppy litter box to going outside to do his business. He's a smart boy that has picked up quickly on where he is allowed to potty and he actually prefers to go outside more now when he needs to go. He currently sleeps in a kennel at night and enjoys having it was a safe space, so when he wants to take a nap or get a break from his siblings, he will go to his kennel to lay down. His foster mom has started leash training him, and that is still a work in progress so he will need to continue working on his leash walking skills in his forever home. Chutney's ideal home environment would be a house with a fenced in backyard that he can sunbathe, snoot around, and play in. He would do well in an apartment, townhouse or condo as long as he has a human home majority of the day or that has a hybrid work schedule that can take him out for a few short walks per day for exercise. He would also benefit from going to a doggy day care a few times a week or have puppy play dates if he is the only dog in his forever home. Chutney is in a foster home in South Texas and will be transported once adopted. He is too young/small to be neutered at this time, so he will have a $200 REFUNDABLE neuter deposit added onto his adoption and transport fees. The neuter deposit will be paid directly to the vet of your choice once he is old enough to have the procedure done. If you are interested in adopting Chutney, please fill out an application at: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application. TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back. Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets. *Applications with electric fences will not be approved for the safety of the dog* The total cost to adopt is $830, which includes a $400 adoption fee, a $230 transport fee, and a $200 REFUNDABLE neuter deposit. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormer, and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. The refundable neuter deposit will be paid directly to your vet to go towards his neuter procedure once scheduled.
