My Story

This is a courtesy posting. CINDY is at the Kern Co Shelter (Bakersfield, CA) and running out of time. She's been through a rough time and was quite scared and fearful when she first came into the shelter, but has warmed up as she's been there awhile and made some friends. Cindy is about 1 yr. old and 58lbs. She urgently needs to be fostered, adopted, or rescued. If you are in the S.F. Bay area and could foster or adopt her, reach out to us. If you are in Kern Co. you can foster or adopt through the shelter. Here's her shelter bio: Cindy has won the hearts of so many at the shelter as well as social media. Her story is compelling and heartbreaking. Cindy and her brother Lou were dumped in the orchards of Bakersfield. A good human regularly went to them to feed them and provide them with shelter from the elements. Over time trust was made and the dogs were secured, but unfortunately there was no where for them to go besides the shelter! Her brother Lou was behaviorally unwell in the shelter environment. He sadly had altercations with other dogs. In an overfull shelter, dogs that aren't getting along don't survive and he was euthanized on 1/14. From originally being abandoned, to losing her friend and protector, Cindy has been thru so much and was originally very scared and nervous. Given a couple of weeks and the kindness of shelter volunteers, Cindy has overcome her fears and has made remarkable progress. From being fearful of some humans 2 weeks ago, to greeting everyone with a tail wag and showing everyone her belly today, she has come a long way! Cindy enjoyed interacting with humans today as well as a big 92lb male dog. She actually initiated play and gave lots of handshakes. She is one heck of a smart girl. She loves to play ball and even brings it back! Here's a link to her video: https://fb.watch/xjOJvBGP_s/ Play notes: Walks well. Friendly with handlers. Friendly and social with other dogs. Not very playful at this time. Hangs out by the fence and tries to dig at the gate to leave (this was early on when she was scared).
