My Story

Meet Coco! This 3 year old 12lb non shedding cutie was given to the Houston shelter by his family when they became homeless. He was a very loved pet and it shows. He's a well trained and very easy addition to any home! His foster mom says: "Coco seems to be pretty adaptable to different environments. I imagine he would do well with many different types of families -- whether that means a single owner, a small family, someone with roommates, etc. He's energetic and loves going for walks, playing fetch in the apartment, and meeting other dogs on our walks. I think he'd do well in a home where they can take him on a few daily walks and play with him between walks. Coco is very sociable and wants to meet just about every dog on our walks, regardless of their size. I have a senior husky mix at home that he gets along well with, is interested in playing with her, and respects her boundaries if she doesn't want to play. I don't have a cat or children, so I can't speak to how he interacts with them here. He doesn't seem spooked by strollers or children on the street. Coco is housebroken and crate-trained. He doesn't know the word "crate" yet, but he is very comfortable in his crate, so I think he was crate-trained in a previous home. From the pet cam I can see that he whines for a few minutes initially when I leave the house, but he self-soothes within several minutes. Then, he is fine being home alone to enjoy a nap in his crate. He has been sleeping through the night in his crate without any issues and doesn't mind sleeping in most mornings. Coco loves going for walks and is very curious and confident outside. On walks, he wants to meet all dogs and anyone who looks like they might pet him. He already walks really well on a leash and will be even more of a walking superstar if his owner can spend some time training so that he can focus his energy on listening to commands while on walks. He's very comfortable in the city and isn't spooked by loud noises, vehicles, or people. Coco is a big fan of fetch, anything that squeaks, and plushy toys. He will play with plush toys and snuggle with them in bed. He's very food-motivated and eats very quickly, so he would do well with a slow-feeder bowl. There's some room for training around his manners if a human is eating something near him that isn't for him. He likes bully sticks and other yummy treats! He's a little picky about which chewy/crunchy treats he likes but is still excited at the prospect of a treat, even if he doesn't love the taste. I'd say he's probably at a moderate activity level. He loves going for walks and can hang on longer walks with my large dog, so he would do well in a home that can go on a few 15+ min walks a day. I've also been playing fetch with him inside of the apartment to give him a chance to run. That being said, he's super adaptable to the environment that he's in and does well with taking the cues of those around him, both human and dog. He's happy to play and run around but just as happy to cuddle up in his bed or on the couch with you. He's a total cuddle bug who loves to sit or lay in your lap whenever possible. Coco loves to sit on the couch and watch birds flying outside. When he wants pets, he'll come into my lap and nudge his head or back under my hand until I scratch the right spot. He's such a little ham - he loves cuddles and getting pets and has so much love to give!" INTERESTED IN ADOPTING?
