My Story

Meet Coco This Frenchie puppy came to our rescue after her new owners spent thousands of dollars. She was from a breeder and as soon as her owners got her, she began showing GI symptoms that were indicative of megaesophagus. Her new owners realized they were not able to continue to spend the amount of money necessary and reached out to our rescue for help. While we always try to keep pets with their owners, they were honest that they were not financially able to keep up with her care, and we are very grateful they acted in Coco's best interest. We have since gotten Coco seen with one of our vets, and they do not think she has megaesophagus . Since switching her diet and giving her smaller meals, she has not vomited or regurgitated. We are hoping this means she may just have GERD and will need an antacid and special food/bowls to keep her healthy. Coco's story is unfortunately very common - breeders (especially for breeds like Frenchies that are prone to so many health issues) oftentimes do not health test their dogs or provide a health guarantee. They don't care about the animal besides the money it brings them. We are optimistic that Coco will have a happy ending, but heartbroken to think about so many other dogs out there like her, who may not be able to get help. Apply to adopt at https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/LUVR/dog All of our adoptable rescues have a clean bill of health (unless otherwise stated), are spayed/neutered, vaccinated (age-appropriately), tested (FeLV/FIV for cats over 8 months of age, HW for dogs over 6 months of age), current on flea and heartworm prevention and microchipped. This is all included in their adoption fee that goes in as a donation to help us cover their medical costs and continue to help other animals in need.
