Meet the beautiful year old, 32.5lb boy we are calling Courage. We believe he could be a Shepherd/Malinois mix. Courage arrived at the shelter on 1/12 as a lost big boy and has been terrified due to all of the noise. A couple of volunteers have taken him under their wings and have been working with him to help his overcome those fears. He is still frightened and confused but a devoted volunteer spent time with him to gain his trust and Courage is slowly learning to understand that all people are not here to hurt him. He earned the name Courage because he is being so courageous and so brave in the middle of a loud, overcrowded shelter. Once he is outside, he is learning to enjoy sniffing the grounds and he walks very nicely on the leash. He is a good boy who is very quiet in the run and has learned to appreciate a warm blanket on his bed and he learned to wag his tail slowly for us. His personality is starting to blossom little by little. We have also learned he knows to sit when asked and he may know more. He takes treats so gently. When adopted he will need to go to a home who will work with him and keep him safe and help him continue to grow with confidence and into the awesome pup we know he can be. Shelters can be a scary place for any pup and he needs someone in his corner to help him everyday to be confident. Patience, gentleness, kindness, and lots of positive encouragement is the key to having Courage open up little by little. Just don't give up on him the way others have in his past.
Courage is current on vaccines, will be neutered and microchipped upon his adoption. He has tested negative for heart worms which is wonderful news for this brave boy! He is waiting to meet you in Run 111 and his ID# is 7469. Please make sure you are the right person or family that will help Courage be the best he can be and live his life happy, loved, wanted, and respected. Please don't fail him!
