Danny Miami (DR7327)

This little guy is Danny Miami, a three year old Shih Tzu. Despite having the most fun name, this little dude is heartbroken and confused as to why he's with us. His family just moved here from Florida and their new home didn't allow dogs, so we were asked to take him. Danny has been pretty vocal about his dislike for being in the company of complete strangers and has had to learn to trust us. He's been with us for a couple of weeks, working out that we're just here to help him so that we can find him the forever home he deserves. Danny has recently turned a corner and has started showing kindness to staff, volunteers, and we've even seen him extend an affectionate lick or two to strangers. We've learned that Danny doesn't like people being around his kennel, or messing with him while he's inside of it because he knows that belongs to him and he wants to protect it. But, he's doing very well with coming outside of the kennel when asked so that he can be leashed and loved on. He has great crate manners as far as knowing that's where he sleeps and to go outside to potty. Danny seems to bond with the person interacting with him and can sometimes not want attention from more than one person at a time. He previously lived in a home with children, but based on the behavior we've seen, we think he would be best suited to be in an adult only home. Quick and unpredictable movements make him defensive. We're not sure how he would do with other dogs, so he would need a meet and greet with any potential canine siblings.
