PHOENIX, AZ- ID #A5126088 - MARICOPA COUNTY ANIMAL CARE (WEST VALLEY) - ADORABLE, YOUNGER 28 lb FEMALE CHOW/PEI X 'DARLA'- ADOPTABLE, BUT MAY NEED RESCUE AND THUS ALSO A FOSTER TO SAVE HER LIFE! SHELTER IS FULL. DARLA IS INITIALLY SHY SO SOMEONE FAMILIAR WITH EITHER BREED IS PREFERRED
Please help us find a good home or foster and rescue for this beautiful girl the shelter fondly named Darla. She has was found as a stray and is very petite at only 28 lbs. The shelter has listed as a chow pei mix, but she may also have other breeds in her due to her size. They also estimated Darla is 3 years young, but she looks like an older puppy. She is available to be adopted, but we are also looking for a foster we can refer to a rescue.
We had a volunteer meet Darla who provided us very nice video and additional pictures. Like many chows or peis, Darla is shy at first. Shelter notes indicate: 'K9 was in front of kennel on approach; closed divider; offered K9 treats, K9 came forward for treats then quickly retreated to back of kennel near divider; handler used a large loop leash to lasso K9, K9 kept dodging leash placement & licking lips; handler placed one foot into kennel to lean into & lasso K9; once leashed K9 walked to PY with a moderate pull on leash, stopping to sniff & urinate; once in small PY, K9 explored & urinated again; allowed handler to approach & pet but would flinch with each initially pet; K9 relaxed body towards end of eval; K9 would take treats when tossed nearby; K9 allowed handler to pick up leash with no issues & walked back to kennel with a moderate pull on leash; entered kennel with no issues, allowed handler to remove leash with hand; once handler closed kennel K9 started to make a crying sound, handler offered treats through kennel gate & K9 took gently. *Due to touch sensitivity placing Requirement of Older Children 12+'.

She has no reported medical issues at this time, and will be spayed for an adopter. If you may be interested in adopting, please contact the shelter directly at (602) 506-7387, ask for her by ID. She is currently in kennel G-211 but may be subject to change. Adoptions are currently only $50 currently. My adoption fee is quite the deal! Not only do you get my unconditional love and a new BFF, it includes my spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchip, and even some cool coupons!
Please note we are looking also looking for foster in case she does need rescue, or someone who may want to foster to adopt her.
If interested in fostering, fostering-to-adopt, or helping in some other way (ie., pledging for her rescue), please also contact
[email protected] asap or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement.
We will try to pair fosters or interested parties with a rescue group. Rescue groups may contact the shelter directly at
[email protected] and by calling 602-506-7387 and providing the ID.
