My Story

Meet Desperado! Desperado is a handsome young male Shepherd mix pup who's a former Mexican Street Dog who's so fortunate to have been rescued off the streets and this very lucky boy is now on his way to Oregon from our friends and rescue partner who operates near Lake Chapala in Mexico just outside of Guadalajara. We're told that he's really friendly and super sweet, and that he loves people and does well with other dogs and even cats. Small/young children are unknown at this time. Submit your online adoption application through our website today and don't miss this opportunity to bring him home for a 3-day home trial towards his adoption. Will you be his hero? Foster update: Meet Desperado, the ultimate snuggler who's ready to keep you warm this winter! Desperado is a one-year-old mixed breed who came all the way from Mexico. He's house trained, crate trained, and does great with his routine, making him a wonderful companion for any home. He's a velcro dog through and through, meaning he loves to be near his people at all times. Whether it's following you around the house or curling up next to you for a cozy cuddle at bedtime, Desperado just wants to be close to you. Desperado has a medium energy level-he's happy to go on walks, but he's just as content snuggling on the couch with you after a nice stroll. He's adjusting to the colder weather here and, being the smart pup he is, enjoys wearing a sweater or coat when heading outside. While Desperado is a bit shy when meeting new people or animals, he warms up quickly once he feels comfortable. He took about a week to adjust to his foster siblings, and now they're great playmates. He's also been around cats and does well with them, although he can be a bit playful with the younger ones, enjoying their energy. Desperado has been around children aged five and up and enjoys their company, though his shy nature means he may not be the best fit for toddlers or younger children who might overwhelm him with their energy. Desperado would be happy in a home as a single dog or with other dog siblings. Once he's comfortable, he enjoys playing and having fun with other dogs. He's a loving and loyal companion looking for a home where he can be his best self-a cozy spot on the couch, lots of walks, and all the snuggles you can offer! Could you be Desperado's perfect match? steps to adopting (OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS ARE IN SEPARATE TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES BETWEEN BEND/CENTRAL OREGON AND THE GREATER PORTLAND AREA. THEREFORE, MEET AND GREETS ARE NOT DONE AT OUR FACILITY. TO LEARN MORE, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR ADOPTION APPLICATION ONLINE AND OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM MANAGER WILL REACH OUT TO YOU WITH FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MEET YOUR NEW PUP!) The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the "OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored "Fill out an Adoption Application here" button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires. To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption contract and pay the full adoption fee of $550. The adoption fee helps cover our costs. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport and other rescue related expenses. All dogs are rescued and do not transport to SDH until they are healthy and ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they fly, which includes sterilization whenever possible, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive at our cost. Upon their arrival, all dogs are seen for a wellness exam by SDH's medical team. Once the adoption is finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
