Rescue Story: Diego was rescued from a hoarding situation in Namhae, South Korea, and has been thriving in his foster home. He’s currently being fostered in South Korea, where he’s adjusting well to a loving environment. Once his forever family is found, Diego will make his way to the U.S. to start his new life. The adoption process includes a two-week trial to ensure a great match and commitment.
Adoption Details: Diego is neutered, microchipped, and up to date with vaccinations (except for the Lyme disease vaccine, which the adopter will be responsible for). His adoption fee is $650, covering his transportation from South Korea to the U.S.
Personality & Behavior:
- With People: Diego is initially shy around strangers and may keep his distance if approached too quickly. He doesn’t bark at people outside but may give a soft bark when new visitors come into the home. He quickly calms down and is overall very quiet, enjoying a peaceful environment.
- With Other Dogs: Diego is gentle and friendly with other dogs. He shows excitement from a distance, quietly whimpering and wagging his tail when he spots them on walks. He enjoys the company of smaller dogs and is polite with larger ones, though he may be a bit reserved around overly energetic playmates.
- With Cats & Birds: Diego is mildly curious about cats but does not chase or bother them. He’s largely indifferent to birds and other small animals during walks.
- In the Home: Diego is calm and quiet indoors. He doesn’t jump on furniture or engage in excessive activity, preferring to find a cozy spot to relax. He’s non-destructive and does not show signs of separation anxiety when left alone for a few hours.
- Car Rides: Diego is a great passenger. He’s calm in the car and does not experience motion sickness.
- With Children: Diego is polite and gentle around children. He doesn’t actively engage with them but remains calm and friendly.
Training & Habits:
- House Training: Diego is fully house-trained for outdoor potty breaks and has never had an accident indoors. He reliably does his business outside during his daily walks.
- Leash Skills: Diego is generally well-behaved on a leash. He may pull slightly if he wants to follow a particular path or explore a smell but adjusts with gentle guidance. He’s curious about food left on the ground, so he needs a watchful eye to keep him from picking up snacks.
- Grooming: Diego is cooperative during baths, teeth brushing, and grooming sessions. While he may not love grooming, he’s calm and patient throughout.
- Vocalization: Diego is a very quiet dog with minimal barking. He may bark softly once or twice when someone new enters the home but stops quickly once reassured.
Exercise & Play
- Favorite Activities: Diego’s favorite activity is going for walks. He loves the outdoors and enjoys exploring new environments. While he’s not particularly interested in toys, he’s always eager for a walk and thrives on outdoor time.
- Daily Routine: Diego enjoys two daily walks—about 30 minutes in the morning and 50 minutes in the evening. Twice a week, he gets an additional 30-minute afternoon walk. On weekends, his walks extend to 40 minutes to an hour for extra enrichment.
Health
- Medical History: Diego was treated for heartworm after being rescued and has fully recovered. He’s currently in great health with no other known medical issues.
- Preventatives: Diego is on a regular flea, tick, and heartworm prevention schedule with Bravecto and Heartgard.
- Diet: Diego enjoys high-quality dry food and is a good eater. He’s enthusiastic about treats and will happily accept any offered.
Measurements:
• Neck: 33 cm
• Chest: 54 cm
• Back Length: 43 cm
Ideal Home: Diego would thrive in a calm, loving home with patient adopters who understand his initial shyness. He may take a little time to warm up, but once he does, he will reward you with gentle affection and companionship. His ideal family would enjoy taking him on regular walks, as that’s when he’s happiest and most confident. Diego’s gentle temperament makes him a great fit for families with children or other pets, as long as his need for a quiet environment is respected.
Adopters should be aware that Diego has a double coat and may shed, so regular grooming will be necessary.
If you’re looking for a gentle, low-maintenance companion who will flourish with love and patience, Diego might be the perfect match.
