My Story
******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************
We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Dierks Bentley, 6 months old (estimated DOB April 2024), neutered male, Staffordshire Terrier mix, currently weighs 31 pounds so we expect him to be a large size when full grown. He is in a foster home in HOUSTON, TEXAS and can transport out of State once an adopter is approved.
Bentley plays hard with other dogs and has tons of puppy energy! He loves a good romp and enjoys playtime with his three doggy siblings (50-60 lbs). He generally picks up on cues when other dogs want to stop playing, but occasionally needs help separating when he gets too excited, especially around his playmate's floppy ears. When meeting new dogs, Bentley tends to pull towards them in a friendly manner, but hasn't met dogs outside of his home yet, so further socialization on walks would be helpful.
Bentley is very energetic, especially during playtime! He’s active, loves running around the yard, and is proud to strut around the house with his toys. While he would thrive in an active to moderately active home, he could also be happy as the only dog if he’s given lots of attention. Having another dog in the home to play with would likely make him very happy as well!
We have no history with cats. Bentley has spent time around a 5-year-old and a 9-year-old, and while he's very playful and sweet, he sometimes jumps on them. It's playful, but he is still learning not to jump on people, which has led to the occasional scratch. With a bit more training, Bentley will do well with children of all ages, as he’s naturally affectionate and eager to play.
Bentley is generally good on a leash, having been walked around the yard and the vet’s office. He follows the lead most of the time, but can pull a little, especially when he doesn’t want to go inside.
Bentley is fully house-trained, having had no accidents in the house or crate. He is crate-trained and stays calm in his crate for up to 6-7 hours while his humans are at work, though he’ll let you know when he wants to go potty or come out.
He loves toys, bones, and treats, though he’s been known to tear out the stuffing from softer toys, so supervision with plushies is a good idea. When it comes to people food, he’s shown no interest in trying to reach it, as his humans eat at a higher table. He’s generally a well-behaved eater! When Bentley’s humans leave the house, he stays in his crate and does fine. While he hasn’t been left unsupervised outside the crate, he’s still learning which items are his toys and which belong to the humans (he’s grabbed a few shoes!). With time and training, he will likely learn what’s off-limits.
Bentley is a playful, curious, and smart pup! He’s proud of his toys and loves carrying them around. He knows how to sit and give his paw, and he’s very tolerant of wearing clothes, pajamas, and even the "cone of shame." (post neuter surgery). He’s also affectionate and enjoys cuddling after he’s had some time to settle down. Bentley is a social butterfly and greets strangers with happy jumps, eager to say hello. He’s also a great car companion, calmly lying on the seat during rides.
Bentley would do best in a home where he’s treated like a beloved family member and given plenty of attention and activity. He’d enjoy a moderately active or active household where he can run, play, and have fun with toys. He would thrive in a home with children 5+ and could live with other dogs, provided he gets some help managing his energetic play style. Bentley is smart, affectionate, and eager to please, and with the right family, he’ll continue to blossom into a well-behaved, loving companion.
For puppies this age, someone needs to be home more than they are away as crating them for long periods of time is not conducive for their developmental needs. If you work outside of the home longer than 4 hours, please explain who will is available to spend time with this puppy while you are aware. If that information is not included, we will not consider your application.
