My Story

YOU MUST HAVE AN APPROVED APPLICATION IN ORDER TO MEET OUR PETS. Dottie is a tender 3 year old Shih Tzu who seems to have had a pretty awful life before being picked up by animal control and then coming into the loving hands of our rescue group. She was a matted mess who was roaming the streets all alone, completely terrified and limping. When shaving off all that clumped fur at the emergency vet, it was noted that a front foot was completely folded back towards the bone, with exposed bone and a bad infection of the rest of the leg bone. Basically, it looks like her foot/ankle was broken, left unattended, trapped in all the matted fur and basically rotting off. Imagine how much pain this neglected girl has been in!! The vet had to amputate the infected leg and Dottie feels so much better! She is getting around just fine on 3 legs already. She can go up a few steps but does need a 1 story new home. Poor little Dottie acted like no one had ever been good to her at first, totally scared, lip lifting, stiff and uncertain at the vet and when first introduced into her foster home. She truly seemed to have never experienced a loving human before! But, despite tremendous pain and fear, she never bit and seems definitely not an aggressive dog at all. Within days, she quickly warmed up in the loving, safe foster environment and is now showing a lot of interest in getting attention, being with her foster parents, and we are seeing that indeed this little girl is quite happy and sweet in a stable home! Her tail is wagging in joy at her new circumstances and life style! Within about 4 days, her foster family could pick her up, clean her surgery site, trim some remaining facial mats, etc. and Dottie has been great!!!! Dottie does seem like she will bond very quickly with anyone who is kind and gentle with her. She does still startle easily so we prefer her to go to an adults only home that understands rescue pups who have had a rough life and need time to adjust. She has been provided with her own comfy crate and she thinks that is wonderful. She may be partially housetrained and also will use pee pads. However, she is still having a few accidents post her recent spay so could use more training and frequent opportunities to potty outside (with praise) at her new home. Dottie seems fine with other dogs, simply ignored them when she first arrived after her amputation but shortly afterwards began initiating play with another small dog in her foster home. Her teeth look pretty good, did not need a dental at this time. We think Dottie is a lovely pup who will just need some patience as she is introduced into her new forever home. She should blossom quickly into her meant-to-be happy, loving self but should not be forced into excessive cuddling, socializing, etc right at first. She will need to be given the opportunity to become comfy at her own pace so that she will trust her new family completely. She will definitely need a nice crate with a comfy pad and blankies (including a blankie on the top so she has a roof) that she can call her own, a safe place to snuggle away from household activities when she needs down time. She likes to be under things when figuring out her new life so her new family should definitely give her space and let her hang out under chairs, etc. if she feels like it. Little Dottie is currently having a bad hair day in her photos due to the shaving but her beautiful fur will grow back and she will be her cute self again in time. She will need regular grooming, of course. We are working on getting better pictures! Adoption donation $350 Please note that we do not ship animals.
