My Story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Duque (pronounced Duke-Ay), 1 year old neutered male, lab mix, 65 pounds. Duque is in a foster home in San Antonio, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Duque is very much a lab puppy - playful and great with all the other dogs he's met, but high energy such that he may annoy an older/calmer dog. He lives in a foster home with a few other dogs, including Scout who is also with Dizzy Dog, and he really loves having someone to chase and play with. Duque would make a great companion for a single, very active individual with labrador experience. He loves to run and will need daily physical and mental enrichment to ensure no negative behaviors develop. He would likely not do well in an apartment unless he had lots of opportunities to stretch his legs through doggy day care, play dates or the dog park, hikes/runs, or long walks. Duque is very friendly and loves giving kisses. He is quick to demand a meal with the loudest voice possible but catches the "itis" immediately afterward and has to nap it off for a few hours. :) Duque would benefit from some basic obedience training but is extremely smart, eager to please, and just a jolly good fellow. Duque will need work on his leash skills, as he can be all over the place. In general, a slip lead, Gentle Leader head collar, or no-pull harness make for exceptional tools to improve leash walking. He is fully house and crate trained, settling in nicely when given a treat. Duque has not been around kids or cats, but has shown curious interest in the cats he's encountered. We would advise slow introductions and supervised activities with cats if necessary to ensure everyone's safety. Since Duque can be so high energy/fast with his playstyle, we would recommend a home with older kids (8+) who are steady on their feet as he could accidentally knock young toddlers over. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt him?
