Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Wilmington, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Dutch! Dutch is a 10-year-old, 17 lb., Shih Tzu who was found as a stray and brought to a shelter. Super cute, and super scared, this pup needed some help. Dutch was treated for pneumonia and received a dental. He has good vision and hearing and is fully housebroken. Dutch can handle a few stairs and walks well on a leash. He is content being in a small penned area and sleeps in a doggy bed. Dutch is good on a leash and enjoys being outside. Dutch needs a patient family that is willing to work with him to gain trust. He would prefer an adult-only home but he gets along well with other dogs. Dutch craves affection but needs a slow approach until he feels comfortable. Once he is comfortable, he wants lots of pets, kisses, and scratches. Dutch doesn’t like being picked up or sitting in laps right now, but rather enjoys sitting near his people.   Dutch is very food motivated and tippy taps with joy when it’s mealtime. He likes hanging out with other dogs and basking in warm sunshine. Dutch gets excited to see his favorite people and has even been known to “dance” in the kitchen.
