My Story

One of our compassionate Texas rescuers saved the life of this very sweet and irresistible Purebred Shih Tzu with hopes of him transporting to Colorado to find a new and wonderful life. Earl's family from birth decided (after 11 years) that he no longer fit into their household and off they sent him to a crowded high kill shelter. They appeared to have no care that their longtime and loyal companion was very likely going to be euthanized. Earl is about 11 years old and pronounced very healthy by a Texas vet. This is such a great age..old enough to be very calm and cuddly, enjoying his time cuddling with his favorite people and young enough to have healthy years remaining. Shih Tzus, with great care, can have life spans up to approximately 19 years old. Our sweet Earl weighs 15 pounds of cottony-coat fluffiness. This little guy was so matted that he was shaved to the skin. This will give his new coat a chance to grow in with gorgeous non-shedding hair that Shih Tzus are famous for. Earl will require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming (approximately 4 times per year) and excellent nutrition including 5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement for a healthy coat and a long life. Earl is such a devoted and smart little guy. He know he's safe and is now more relaxed and far less fearful and shy. Earl is emerging since he's been with his rescuer. Initially this poor guy was so frightened due to all the changes in his life but with patience and love, he's truly blossoming! Earl has made progress each and every day and is on his way be being a well-adjusted guy who is open to new relationships and adventures. Earl loves his walks where he can socialize with dog-loving neighbors (won't he be perfect for those gorgeous days leisurely exploring the paths around his home? Earl also loves his couch time that includes periodic hugs, praise and treats that make Earl feel so good about himself. Earl is such a fun and silly guy that we hope his new family will choose to spend lots of time enjoying his antics. Every day when Earl's rescuer comes home from errands, she's greeted by a very joyous and loving Earl giving happy kisses with a helicopter tail. He's a love bug that will be initially shy due to all the changes in his life, but with time and love, he emerges with his waggy tail and sweet smile. Farfel's Rescue has made the decision that we'd like to see Earl in a home with loving and devoted retirees that spends lots of time at home...or enjoy taking their furry best friend along. A younger family that works from a home-based office would also be a good choice for this people-loving guy. Earl is also a perfect take-along sized guy...it's so easy to just scoop him up and snuggle him under your arm. He enjoys the car and is very happy riding strapped into his car seat so he can watch the activity going on around him.. Earl is at his absolute best with adults. He's much more comfortable with quiet energy...a walk followed by time on the couch or bed watching a favorite TV show would speak to this little dog. He would be overjoyed to be part of a family of older or lower energy folks. It would match his own energy level and he would be a loyal, full-time best friend. Earl is unknown with cats. He's compatible, however, with like-sized dogs with similar energy levels to his own...but doesn't require these relationships to be happy. We wonder if Earl wouldn't be at his best as an only dog with a family that will shower full-time love and pampering on him. He would return that love and kindness a million times over as he falls more and more in love with his family. Earl is a non- shedding guy (and considered to be one of the most hypoallergenic breed mixes available today). Earl will therefore require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and excellent nutrition. A daily salmon oil supplement coupled with 5 star food is a great regimen to keep his cottony-soft coat healthy, cottony-soft and matt-free. Earl will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Wednesday 9/29/2021. If interested in this gorgeous and very cuddly, loyal and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit. **PLEASE NOTE**. If you're truly interested in adopting Earl, please be sure to submit the Farfel's Rescue adoption application that can be found at the link above or at farfels.com. Rescue site applications such as Petfinder, Rescueme or Adoptapet don't provide enough information for us to determine a great match for this very deserving dog.. and therefore aren't useful. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those those that don't submit a Farfel's adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue!
