My Story

"Hey there, my name is Elliot. I came here a little ago after some kind souls found me in a pretty sad state. I was a little freaked out at first because I didn't understand what was going on, but now that I'm getting a taste of the cushy side of life I'm so happy. My caretakers got me my first ever bed, and even a stuffed animal to play with; it's so much better than laying on the pokey grass, and hard dirt. My caretakers are getting me all taken care of and told me that I should only focus on finding my forever home. So here I am! I hope I can find a forever home soon; I can't wait to get to rest on more soft furniture and floors, and to have friends to play with finally. Please send my caretakers a message if you think I might be who you're looking for." Elliot came to us in the middle of the humid southern summer after being found on a tie out with no shelter, water, or food in sight. He was approximately 20 pounds under what he should have weighed; upon testing we found him to have many intestinal parasites, and unfortunately found out he was heart worm positive. Even with this very rough state he was immediately a crowd favorite, that doesn't have an apparent mean bone in his body. He was fast to give loving cuddles to us, and would only wag his tail before shuffling off when other dogs barked or snapped toward him. Though he was very far under weight he has not even displayed any aggressive behaviors towards handlers when it comes to interacting with food; even allowing us to pick up his bowl while he is eating. We've had to put his food in a slow feeder as he does, understandably, tend to inhale his food. Thanks to his relationship with food, however, he is extremely food motivated, and, pairing this with his high intelligence, he has become a quick learner in the training we've been working on. He's become quite the gentleman by waiting for his food to be set on the ground before waiting for his release command to go eat. We are still working on leash training as Elliot is always very excited to be moving so he does tend to pull. Elliot would likely make a wonderful pet for an active household that enjoys playing as much as they enjoy hunkering down for snuggles. If you are interested in making Elliot a part of your household, please feel free to reach out to us so that we can arrange a meet-and-greet "I really appreciate you taking the time to read about me a little bit, and I hope I'll get to find my forever family soon." ***Elliot's Heartworm treatment and remaining vaccines will be covered in adoption fee*** Our office hours are Monday-Friday 7-5:30. If you call during non-business hours you may leave us a voicemail, and we will get back with you as soon as possible. Inquiries may also go through our e-mail at [email protected].
