My Story

Please contact Kady Hammer ([email protected]) for more information about this pet.sweet mama ready for her own family! EMMA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Emma Best Guess for Breed: Lab and golden retriever mix Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of January 2025 Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 58 lbs Gets Along With:Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested. Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get her freedom ride up here after she completes heartworm treatment. Special Adoption Considerations: Emma is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Emma is Looking For: Her forever home! This Very Good Girl was nursing four puppies when she arrived into our care. She raised them to be amazing family pets and they went off to get their own homes. Now Emma is eager to get her own humans. Long sniffy walks, romps in parks, trips to new destinations - she wants it all, please! Most of all, she wants to give love and be loved - shelter staff say she is simply lovely. She promises adoring gazes and happy tail wags and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Does she get her fresh start with you? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
