Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.
A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known.
Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Date into Rescue: 10/03/24
Reason for being in rescue: owner release to a NC shelter, sick and owner cannot afford care
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Yes - Fable's illness as a young pup was never fully diagnosed. She developed petit mal seizures. We know she responded well to IV fluids, injectable antibiotics and simply supportive care. With the supportive care, the seizures stopped. When the care was withdrawn, the seizures did not return. Did she get into something toxic - maybe. She was tested for distemper and that was negative. She was tested for parvo and that was negative. We have not spent the money on an MRI as she is, other than some depth perception vision issues, otherwise a sweet, happy little normal gal. Fable does have a sensitive digestive system. She eats Fromm Pork and Apples and does well on this. She had diarrhea on other foods. We recommend you continue it.
Weight: 17 lbs and growing - we think no more than 25 when full grown
Height: 18 in at the shoulder now, this girl is all leg!
Spayed/Neutered: No - Fable is still young and growing and it is in her best interest to withhold this surgery until she is at least 1 year old. Fable will be placed on a contract that requires you to spay her at your cost within 9 months and provide proof of spay.
Adoption Fee: $599
Fence needed? No
What kind of home would be best for me? Fable is like having a giant stuffed animal come to life in your home. She is looking for someone who loves dogs, loves to be touched and loves to snuggle. She could spend her life happily playing at your feet.
Fable is young and because she has spent the last 6 weeks recovering from whatever affected her, she does not have a lot of experience yet with life. She was in a very loving foster home during those 6 weeks who introduced her to other adult dogs and to people and loved her unconditionally. Now it's time for her to go out and learn the world more. She is ready.
Fable needs people. That is the bottom line. All the time, with her, loving her and guiding her.
What is my personality like? Loving, gentle and so affectionate. Fable thinks that humans are grand, and she wants to be part of your life. She does not interact much with our dogs. We do believe Fable has some depth perception vision issues - she will happily go UP stairs but says no to come down stairs. She has run into fences if the lighting is low. This will have to be watched. We do not believe it will get any worse and she can see. Just not perfectly.
We have spoken to the family that purchased Fable as a very inexpensive designer dog off an ad she saw. The family cares very much for their girl but did not have the funds to even start diagnostics. She has realized that the purchase price is just the start of getting a dog. We highly recommend health insurance for all of our dogs, and we especially do for Fable. While it won't cover neurological issues now because of the pre-existing, it will help you with other challenges that may come to this young dog in her life.
How do I act when I first meet new people? A little timid and a little glad. Go slow, get down on her level and she will love you unconditionally in the first 5 minutes.
Other tips and tidbits: Fable's birthdate is 5/21/2024.
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.
To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.
Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.
Thank you for considering CPR.
